How many miles do you get before 1st blip goes down on fuel gauge?

Without knowing the price of the petrol that doesn't tell you too much. At say 1.40 GBP/liter that would come out at about 43 liters, which for me corresponds to about where the last pip starts blinking, or maybe another 10 miles or so past. That's usually the point where I fill up BTW, usually at about 1000 km and usually about 43L. And coincidentally it usually costs me about $60 Au.

 

I think your calculations are a little off as at £1.30 a ltr x44 = £57.20 andat £1,35 ltr x44 = £59.40.

Yeah 43 to 44L sounds about right, that's a pretty good fill.

At 45 MPG (UK) you're only going to have a range of 400 to 450 miles though. Since you're probably filling all the way you'll find that your top pip corresponds to about 2 gal, whereas the all the others will only be about 0.9 gals (UK). I predict that you should get 90 to 100 miles on the first pip (with your current MPG).

 

I have been filling up with just under 100 miles left. There is one blip left. The lowest was in the 80's. I read somewhere it isn't a good idea to run the tank too low. First because I might draw in debris, second when refilling I could stir up the bottoms and clog the inline filter. I seriously don't think there's a whole lot of truth in this however, the idea of risking cavitation in the fuel pump is a cause for concern.

 

I get anywhere from 30 miles U.S. to 85 miles U.S. It depends on temperature and my driving habits.

I'm presently on 150 miles from my latest tankful of fuel and the first pip still hasn't disappeared - which is consistent with previous full fill ups. It took 41.7 litres to fill it up last time around and I hit exactly 500 miles (66.4mpg) with one solid pip left before I refuelled. Note that though it's summer in the UK, I've been using the A/C (on the least setting) during the hot commute home in the afternoons. In the mornings, I use just the ventilation fans with the windows up to maintain a good drag coefficient. My round trip commute of 36 miles a day takes me through some heavy congestion in the mornings and an equal amount in the afternoons. To be honest, I haven't checked my tyre pressures yet, especially as the inherited service documentation indicates that they're filled with Nitrogen gas. I'm taking the car in for a 60,000 mile Toyota service in September, and will have the tyre pressures checked and adjusted then. I suspect they're set at standard Prius handbook pressures. However, the ride is very smooth and on well tarred roads it feels like I'm literally floating! My last car - a 1998 Mazda MX-3 1.6i used to give me only 230 miles out of 42 litres of Shell V-Power. So I'm absolutely delighted to be getting 500 miles out of 42 litres of regular unleaded which IS much cheaper!

 

The UK (EU) spec seem to be different (more like the Japanese model).

 

I seem to get between 110miles (not trying) and 130(trying) on my first pip.
But I am a horrible newbie trying to learn how to drive this thing best...

 

We just stop and fill up when it's a top-tier station with decent prices and the timing is convenient after we notice the display shows two pips. We've only gotten down to one pip four or five times and even then the longest traveled on one pip was about 25 miles. We've never seen the last pip blink. In fact, the most I've ever put in this car is 10.04 U.S. gallons.

It's a lot less stress and a lot less gauge watching, especially given the inconsistent nature of the rubber bladder we have here for a fuel tank. Of course, we're fortunate to have a large number of good stations locally and we plan our refueling stops on cross country trips at around 300-350 mile intervals no matter what the gauge reads. We're looking for food or a restroom by then anyway.

 

I get around 50-60 miles before the first blip goes away.

 

160-170 depending on the driving.

 

I have gotten almost 200 miles on full, but I fill it all the way to the cap and shake the air out. Sometimes 12 gallons...
