I was thinking of getting a newer car but wondering what would be the best way to get rid of my 05 pruis. sale it out right or trade it in ?
As these things go, generally speaking, YOU will virtually ALWAYS get more money selling it yourself than going for a trade in. I don't know if this "convential wisdom" applies to Prii, but that is the historical trend. A dealer MUST pay you less than the car's value because they MUST re-sell it. If you DO decide to go for a trade-in...go in and make your best deal WITHOUT saying you have a trade. Once you have a commitment from a dealer on their selling price...THEN bring in your trade.
