I just received my first email/newsletter update from Toyota (August Connect) since buying our Prime this past June. In the newsletter it gives directions on how to check on and do an Audio/Multimedia firmware update via online instructions, basic data input and downloading software to a USB key.

Has anyone done this? If so, any significant updates to be had? It's still a little irksome that we are able to do this type of firmware update but have to pay to have the navigation system (maps) updated.

I haven't seen anything like that, maybe it's a canadian thing. I never have received a connect newsletter.

Similar to updating firmware on a Sony TV.
Download firmware image to root of a blank USB formatted as FAT(16) or FAT32.
Insert USB device into USB port.
    Power on device.
Device recognizes USB and firmware image.
After a confirmation prompt firmware is updated automagically.
    QED
PS. Do not interrupt the update process once it starts.

Thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, if you IP address shows outside of Canada they thumb their nose at you with this message. So USA folks don't bother with the Canada site.

Fortunately, I've always been able to get updates by using my phone with a data connection, Bluetooth, the Entune App, and either being prompted to download an update or checking for it on my 11" display manually. It's been this way since 2014 on the higher end Entune units. I've gotten all of my updates on my 2014 4Runner TEP that way and on my 2017 Prime Advanced.

PS, my 2017 Prime Advanced face plate number is E7052.

Note: Toyota Downloads USA version says I do NOT have an update for my Entune.

I see firmware updates can be downloaded from owners.toyota.com in the US.

Yes, but it's always pretty generic. When you access the firmware download on the website, there's a note as to what was updated just before you click the download button.

PS, I've never seen anything on the public firmware download site that was not already pushed or available directly on the vehicle's software update via Entune.

Yep. For me, it shows that the smaller nav screen has an update available, but nav/audio systems with the larger, 11" displays do not.

And that agrees with what is available on techinfo. At least as of a month ago when I had a subscription.

There is an update for the 11" screen that is supposed to fix the rebooting issue.

As someone very clever posted late last year in another thread here related to head unit updates, the file (at least for the Advanced model) is still on the server for download, but the web page shows there's no update. I was able to download this file and update my Prime with it, and checking now the file is still there.

Not sure about the logistics or ethics of directly sharing the link or the file, would appreciate mod feedback.

So is this a Canadian update only, or is there one for the US too?

I noticed that email as well.

Since in Canada we don't have Entune (which is ridiculous), you need to use the faceplate number which is in the lower right corner for my 11.5" display. Once I entered that it said I needed the update. However, when I looked into the description of the update it only applies if your version is before R10A5530. I had a look and I'm already at that version, so I don't need to update. Also, I had a look at the description of all of the issues addressed. I don't seem to have those issues, so I didn't bother updating. Thanks for pointing this out, it is good to know we can update when software improvements are made. I was hoping it would add Entune for us in Canada - maybe someday.

Question - is this an update for the actual head unit firmware, or is it just an update for the media apps?

Looks like it is the multimedia or navigation system firmware (Operating System). It will not update maps or add new features, but will correct bugs. Unfortunately for those of us in Canada, it states in the Q&A that is does not add new features, and gives the example: "it is not possible to add Entune by doing a firmware update":(.

Nope, nothing to see here. For whatever reason, call me crazy, I was hoping Toyota would be a little more proactive with their flagship Prius Prime software... looking at how the are handling entune (3.0 limits to 2018 and newer for example) I'm just gonna call it a day and guess Toyota still doesn't get it.

Canadian owner with 11" screen. do not know what the version when I received the vehicle in March 2018. But I have brought the vehicle back to the dealership to "fix" the infamous rebooting issue. At that time (march 2018), the dealership said they needed authorization from Toyota Canada to apply the fix b/c it was not released in Canada. They got the authorization and "fixed" it. I wasn't provided exactly what they did. But since the "fix", i only had about 2 reboots since, and no reboots in the last few months.

I went to setup and see my firmware version is R10A5530
