I bought my car in for Toyota to check out my rear glass defective QC problem. After placing two rear glasses Toyota said it’s normal. Here are the picture. How can it acceptable when a defective glass were having damages. It a qc issues that toyota don’t want to admit. My attached pictures had scratches from inside also under the carbon fiber bars. No way to to make damages to those area.. this is a defective part for sure. We check out the new prius prime it doesn’t have the same issues. Toyota keep saying it is acceptable..... Does anyone have the same issues ?
Yeah, that's BS. They definitely need to replace that glass as I don't think it's possible to "paint" over those defects. I would prefer a completely new hatch in order to avoid possible leakage issues down the road. Then again, that may just be me.
I've got the same air gaps, and on each side of the rear hatch glass, like mirror images of each other. I don't consider either of them a problem.
If I'm reading your post correctly Toyota already replaced the glass? At least once? Which would explain the resistance of Toyota to replace it again. I have to look at the pictures however and ask myself how I would feel if that was my new vehicle, and I wouldn't be happy. It's clearly in my opinion a QC problem, probably in the manufacturing of the glass. Also because I can't tell from the pictures.... Are they scratches of or in the tint or are they air bubbles in the tint? In either case, I think it reasonable to want blemish free windows on a new vehicle. I would call Toyota and start a case. IMO that isn't "normal"...and it isn't damage you caused.
Judging from the heater wires in a couple of the pictures, it's not a big area; it's imperfections in the black-out paint on the inside? Maybe an automotive glass shop can work with Toyota, find out the paint spec, do a seamless touch-up. Yeah, I know, you want it perfect from the get-go, but it's a sand-pounding amount of labour, to pull it all out and replace over a small imperfection. And maybe going that route new problems will arise?
I was wondering the same thing myself. It's hard to tell from the pictures but I'm wondering how big the defect areas are and whether they are something that develop over time or are present from the factory. One might understand how defective glass might go unnoticed during a post-delivery inspection (PDI) by the dealer.....and to a lesser extent by the customer, who probably signed a hunk of paper acknowledging any irregularities at delivery (laws vary by state.) However (comma!) if the glass was deemed to be defective and replaced, I'm not sure how it happened....AGAIN. Either way? Toyota has a customer care mechanism, so I guess that's the next step. Step after that might be small claims. In the end, the owner is going to have to do a coin-toss as to whether they are satisfied with Team Toyota's products and customer care, and either continue to buy their products or not. I've already seen the 1990 version of this movie, but you never know...... 2018 might have a different ending. Good Luck!
thank you all, I will call Toyota and open a case on it, it’s not a big deal but how can Toyota accept this as normal. Take a look after Toyota factory inspector inspected the car they circle this defective areas. It’s not 1 but 5 areas. They consider normal. I can’t believe it Toyota had such low standards! It’s like cheating on a customer. Here a defective part on ur car u paying full price for it. Have a good day! I will never see u again
A tool is a tool, agree If u bought a used car, u have to accept it, this is on a new car wasn’t done by an accident. It’s factory defective part considered normal. Toyota trying to tell us if u had a problem we won’t fix it. Have a good day
I don't know what they are. At least they don't obstruct the view out the back since they're behind the hatch frame. Left side: Right side:
OP seems to believe they are not air bubbles. Seems to believe they are areas of "missing tint". Honestly, I don't know. But in either or any case, seems clear it is a defect. If the vehicle was nearly brand new, my expectations would be that the glass does NOT have this defect.
It is likely a holding spot for a robot or some such. The tint probably isn't being given enough time to dry before getting grabbed.
I had a similar case with my rear hatch and unplasant experience with Toyota. Basically, the glass was installed improperly as such it has uneven gaps around the rear hatch. Took mine in to the Toyota dealership where I purchased and left it for two days. Toyota’s response was; gaps are within tolerance! It is not leaking but I wonder what it can do to the left rear hatch strut or rubber gasket with wider gap being exposed to weather after years of service.
