New Prius Prime Advanced owner here. Mostly like everything but I have a problem with my HUD display. I have found and adjusted the vertical (Up/Down) adjustment and have that dialed in. But, I have a left/right centering problem. In my normal driver sitting position the right edge of the speed reading cuts off. If I close my right eye I can see the last digit but if I close my left eye it is gone. The left side of the HUD is fine and has plenty of margin. I can move my head/body to the left a little and the HUD is all visible to both eyes, but that posture feels unnatural to me. So, is there a way to adjust he HUD left and right? I highly suspect the answer is no from the normal user interface since I have seen no mention of it in the manual and the dealer salesman said no. But, maybe there is? Has anyone else had this issue with their HUD? Can the unit have screws loosened inside the dash on the HUD projector to re-center it mechanically/manually? In other words, if I complain loudly enough at the dealership can this be easily fixed??? Thanks in advance for any help.
I find it a little too far to the right for me too. It doesn't bother me as much now. I guess I'm getting used to it.
I’ve had EXACTLY the same issue. If I sit perfectly centered in my driver’s seat, I can see the HUD mph projection with my left eye only. My right eye can’t see it at all, so it leaves the image blurred. I have to lean left to get both eyes on the mph for it to be clear, but it’s so annoying (!) and feels like Toyota should have a fix. I stopped by the dealership today and they threw up their hands not knowing how to fix it. One option they offered was to have me bring the car into the shop and have them go through their entire software program for the Prime Advanced to see if THEY have any control of the left-to-right movement. The other option would be to put in a shim so that the HUD device is physically moved a little to the left but they admitted that it wasn’t a “Toyota solution.” Would be nice to hear of someone with a successful remedy.
I found an adjustment in one of the menus. I thought left and right was an option. I forgot where. I will take a look and report back.
One of the attractions of the Prime was the availability of the HUD. My previous car, a 2009 Cadillac STS, came with an HUD which I originally thought was frivolous. However, both my wife and I quickly found that it was a very useful feature, especially when providing GPS navigation info. Several Prime owners have commented on the problem of the Prime's HUD horizontal positioning. I had the same experience the first few times I drove the car but eventually I settled into the seat and the problem went away. (See HUD | PriusChat) Again, my experience was similar for my first week owning the Prime. I'm not sure the improvement was due to my getting used to sitting differently or with the Prime's seat becoming "broken-in" and more sympathetic to conforming to my body shape and weight. I believe the only adjustments are brightness and up/down: I think your problem is inherent in the design of the Prime and not a defect specific to your car. If your dealership is willing to try a mechanical fix, it might be possible but it would involve their own creativity and improvisation. Let us know what you do. By the way, there is a lot of grumbling that Tesla's new Model 3, which depends almost entirely on its large center-located touch screen display, does not have an HUD or offer it as an option. Go figure.
I checked this evening and there was only an up or down adjustment. I think my 2012 had a right to left adjustment. But it is long gone so I can't check.
I can attest to your observation about seating position. I did some further personal research and discovered the following:
I just got mine and this is happening to me too, I guess I lean or sit a bit to the right in the seat.
