Hey guys, Just purchased my Prime Premium two weeks ago (switching from 2013 Plug-in) and I am amazed on the improvements except for the 4 seater and smaller trunk space. I've always installed rear view mirrors with homelink on all my cars but I noticed that the new Prime with the lane sensing camera gets in the way. So here is a quick solution if you already hardwired the power/acc/ground for the rear view mirror. Why spend $500 for the longer neck version from the dealer when you can do the following: 1. Purchase a Gentex mirror from eBay for $50 2. Purchase a Brandmotion 5000-SPCR Windshield Mirror Spacer $55 3. Dremel the current cover to adapt the extension 4. Assemble everything back and you are done!!!! Here are some images: Mirror spacer mounted 2. Original cover with pencil markings 3. Dremel 4. Place the cover back and you are done!!
If you purchase an used Gentex mirror from ebay or an older gen prius mirror, the neck of mirror is too short because the camera cover gets on the way. They do sell a new OEM (by gentex) with longer neck for our Prius but it costs $500. My solution was just to add a mirror extension and then trim the camera cover to fit. Hope this makes sense
Thank you for respondiong, but I guess I wasn't clear. I mean what does mounting this Gentex mirror do for you? Why did you want to do it?
it is very nice mod. Can you tell me how you wire them? Is there any plug or need to wire then all the way down to fusebox?
Thanks! I just realized that there is no "IG+ (or ACC)" wire available on ceiling area. I should run it down to the fuse box.
I used this to get power from the fuse block. Please keep in mind that you will not be able to put the fuse cover back. I just left in my glove box. Nilight 12V Car Add-A-Circuit Fuse Tap Adapter Mini Atm Apm Blade Fuse Holder-10 Pack, 2 Years Warranty iPad ?
