WILL FERRELL INSULTED PRIUS ON LENO'S SHOW

will farrell is a Prius cheerleader and most people know it. the fact that the Prius is mentioned is a good thing. that puts the Prius name in the minds of the fence sitters.

we all know people who had major misinformation about the Prius and was suddenly "converted" when they had their own real life experience. having the Prius name bouncing around in one's head will help encourage that real life experience.

besides, how can someone who can afford to drive any car who has chosen a Prius, be construed as bad in any way?? to me that says a lot

 

The fact that he owns a Prius is great.

 

Why are people so damn sensative about everything. First of all I do not see any kind of a slam to Prius owners; Ferrell owns one for God sake. Second, if you are that insecure about yourself that you care what others might say or......think about what you drive, your problems are much bigger than anything Will Ferrell could say. Seek help, really

 

Also, if you want to get technical about it, you need to put his comments into context. He was comparing driving a Prius to driving a race car - there's a bit of a difference.

Okay, before everybody slams the OP for being so thin-skinned, I kind of agreed with the basic concern... even though Will Ferrell was kidding about the Prius only being able to reach 50mph, people who don't know any better, who already have a preconceived notion about the Prius (and other hybrids) being slow, would have had their misconceptions confirmed. Before I drove the Prius, I was afraid that it might be a slow, underpowered car.

The point isn't whether or not anybody cares what Will Farrell thinks. What I'm saying is that people who don't know any better could be influenced by what he says. If I were considering buying a car with better gas mileage and low emissions, but was under the misconception that the Prius is a slow, puttering little car that can't even get up to highway speeds -- when somebody else confirms it, albeit in jest (how would I know?), I might reject the idea of buying a Prius without even trying it.

I'm not saying that Will Farrell isn't funny or that we should go and lynch the guy for having insulted our babies!!!

Being uninformed is a choice. Anybody that makes what is a fairly expensive decision based on a soundbite they heard on TV should get exactly what they deserve. I believe these people buy Hummers...
I very much doubt if you (or anyone else on this site) heard that comment that you would base such a decision on it.
You would know it was in jest because Will Ferrell is widely known and very recognizable as a comedic actor both on the big screen and on TV. The only way you wouldn't know is if you never watch TV. But then you wouldn't see the Leno show, either, nor the soundbite. Problem solved. You have to admire my circular logic...

Of course, I'm not saying that thousands of viewers are going to make their car-buying decision based on one comedian making a remark to Jay Leno. I'm just saying that remarks like that could help perpetuate the myth that the Prius is a slow little car.
