Only Front Stereo Speakers Work on Gen 2. Wondering if Likely Related to Recent Replacement of MFD.

    Recently replaced the MFD on our Gen 2 Prius dues to the existing unit having a faded out screen. Got same model as existing. Also replaced the 12V battery recently. Tried the stereo today for the first time in awhile and believe only the front center / dash speakers are working, very tinny and not very loud sound without cranking the volume. Don't know if this was already an issue prior to MFD replacement, but wondering if it could be something to do with the replacement MFD, connectors, or what the most likely issue is? Also, possibly hearing a very high-pitched "squealing" noise. I've read about "head units", but don't know what that is. Basically, we're getting ready to sell this Prius and just want to get it in the best shape possible with the least amount of money put in. Already spent over $500 (MFD, A/C Vents, Trunk Hatch Switch, Battery, Driver's Door Handle) and not looking to put in a bunch more. Thanks

    could be defective, but hopefully just a bad connection. where did you get it?

    Toyota uses one connector for the front speakers (and system power) and a second connector for rear speakers. Sounds like they left one loose.

    My rear speakers went out a couple of months ago. Now all I'm getting is a tinny sound out of my front speakers. My radio station also resets periodically. Could all of this be related to loose connections in the MFD? Did you have any success figuring out your issue? Thanks!

    Little on the low side, how old is this 12v battery?

    How many minutes/hours per week do you use the vehicle?

    You might try tickle charging with a smart charger.

    Can also leave it in 'ready mode' for 10 hours or so, which should charge the battery.

    If the battery fails to hold a charge after either of the above, then it would be time to replace.
