Code 1241 please help

    Hello all

    I have a 08 prius w no Cluster meter. My hybrid battery appears to be fine however today i got a "problem" signal on my MFD brought it to autozone because i cnt see no dashlights as i need to repair my cluster meter. Autozone brought up code
    C1241 saying low or abnormelly high voltage from 12v? Is the 12v battery the problem here or am i looking at something major? Also dont know if this is relevent however my front brakes are extremely loud like they are honking at me after a rainy day or such. Please help

    start with the 12v. did they test it? how old is it?

    I am not sure how old it is i just bought car however on it is 14.2v and off it is 12.5 12.6

    measure it after it has been off overnight, or turn the headlights on and watch the voltage drop.

    Has about 185k and i am doing now w headlights the it dropped to 12.0

    doesn't sound good, but double check in the morning, or go back to auto zone for a free voltage and load test.

    Does it sound like the 12v battery is low? Or does that code get shown for other reasons as well?

    It could be the auxiliary (12-volt) battery, but there are other possible causes. The Repair Manual, available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com and from other sources, has a list of the specific detection conditions that cause the skid control ECU, the computer that controls the brake system, to store code C1241. When this code is read with a Toyota Techstream diagnostic system (or equivalent), it should be accompanied by a Detailed Code (81, 82, 83, or 84) to indicate which condition was detected.

    it is low enough to warrant double checking it, it is the easiest thing you will do. if the battery is okay, it gets more complicated as mentioned above.

    One thing to note with this code is it can set while the car is running, so it is not the 12 V battery that is the cause of the problem. It is more the victim.

    While it is prudent to check the 12 V and even charge it up, as it has most likely took a severe hit (trying to keep the 12 V bus alive while the DC/DC converter was shut down), it is not the cause.

    As Elektroingenieur has said, you need to find out which of the sub-codes are flagged to help point you in the right direction. You then need to follow the repair manual, as this code diagnostic is quite involved.

    At this point, all this talk of checking the 12 V battery is a needless distraction.
