Musta been a pretty gruesome method of social (mob) justice to reverberate in our culture all these years later......

I spilled hot oatmeal on myself while trying to multi-task just the other morning and since I was listening to an episode of the podcast Revolutions at the time, and one of the earlier episodes described this in a little detail........I received a theory-to-practice demo on how a heated gooey substance applied to unprotected flesh might actually feel..........without the feathers of course, which would do little to improve the taste of oatmeal.
Only salt, honey, cinnamon, and a liberal application of some form of animal fat (bacon, butter, etc.....) can do that!

Speaking of theory.....if you indulge in an ultra-low-carb (essentially a Vegan) diet, you will NOT live longer!!!

It will just seem longer!

Asphalt is hauled and applied at about 200 oC. Oatmeal <100 oC. Sensations might differ.

 

It also sticks to the skin, and will pull it off when it cools and contracts.

i'd hope the traditional tar used in tar-and-feathers application was more liquid at ambient temp's.
