What's a reasonable cost for inverter water pump replacement on an '07? My daughter was just quoted $597 which seems pretty steep. Ian
We're in Westlake Village. Dealer is TO Toyota. Normally I'd do this myself, seems really easy. Sadly I'm out of town and she needs her car.
There's a good shop by USC that can do it. But that's a bit far from you. hybridfix.com. Call him for a quote, he's a member here. Avi - (310) 426-8432
You might want to consider doing it yourself. This afternoon, I just changed out one for a 2005, it was pretty easy, took about 35 minutes. I watched this youtube video, it explains removing the driver headlight to get access. I then took a few small pieces of wooden clothespin and some welding vice grips to clamp off both the upper and lower hose, replaced out the inverter pump, then tried to bleed out any air, but there were not any bubbles to bleed. I purchased the Toyota pump on Amazon for about $90.00 Since I have two other Prius'es (2005 and 2009) both with over 200K, I'm thinking I will buy a spare pump just to have on hand. All three cars had the original pump replaced under warranty around 100K. I should also note that I had replaced the coolant last fall, so I didn't want to go through the whole procedure of draining, refilling, bleeding. -andy
I took mine to a local repair shop thinking I would save money on labor & feel I definitely got ripped off not asking price before hand - charged $538! & I already had bought OEM part from Toyota for 115 because they matched an on line price but originally they wanted to charge 185!
Just got 2007 pump replaced in LA area by Bob Lee Auto. Part was about $280. Total $660 parts + Labor. Did not try dealer.
Unfortunately, you took it good on that one. Bob Lee didn't do you any favors. I can buy the ICWP from my local Toyota dealer for about $120 out the door. Takes an hour to install if I have a beer in one hand.
