I contentedly reside in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. About 140km South of San Diego
(I specify "North America" to mildly express my views on related geopolitics. The median Canuck may echo the sentiment.).
When necessary, I source parts and occasionally specialized service in Socal.

So, on a whim I just used my $100(beijing tools) Centech OBD/ABS reader to explore what, if any, codes it would throw. Zero in DTC Land, however...
Over in ABS land, a C1259: "HV SYSTEM REGENERATIVE MALFUNCTION".
That's it, no more codes from cheapo obd reader.
But one is better than none.

I just searched and browsed the first 30ish PC threads under "C1259". You swarthy regular contributors are a pretty awesome bunch.
I don't know that anything helped me nail my own prob, but great, informative reading.

    So, I cleared the(all) code(s).
All CELs/Warningz extinguished, but when car is "started" the ICE fires-up and then about 30-seconds of idling in 'Park' ALL systems shut down, haltingly. Can't even remove the s-key from its slot.

However, as long as I don't actually shift and move, no CELs return.
    That Seems Interesting...
    Confirms PSD issue, maybe?

Anyway, the other local diagnostic guy wanted 800pesos(US$45ish) to give me a second opinion (yesterday, the guy in my 'hood charged 300p).
800p is a HUGE sum of money down here; for simply plugging-in his diagnostic tablet, I passed.
Also, I felt no confidence that his device was Techstream loaded (and, my spidey senses were screaming "Screw the Gringo!").

So, I'm pulling the 'new' battery and hauling it back North tomorrow to allow the vendor to 'make good'. Regardless whether the received-HV is good or bad, I will try to confirm if they were referring to selling the (entire) PSD assembly for $250.
Also, I will be ordering the VXdiag nano once stateside manana.
    Thanks

Swapped batteries w/vendor. His '05 ran normally for 5-10 min. of street stopngo. Then, shazam, all the same dash warnings and it went limp.
He gave me his battery and was apologetic.

So, is that typical behavior when performing "battery-swap" diagnostics? 10 minutes of 'normal' then "Bam"!

He suspected that there was a problem with my HV ecu and not the cells. He also suggested that if the replacement battery dies within 50 miles that I have either a bad PSD or stator. I think of a "stator" as an electrical winding so I guess he's referring to the separate 'generator'?

After the 500-mile R/T to LA (but 14hr!) I'm hoping the replacement battery solves. Report shortly.

This guy obviously pretty bad at his job. They all blame the ecu.

Replacement-replacement HV installed: 2-hours of city driving with AC ablazing and all is well.
    Time will tell.

I don't think this vendor is a crook.
His competence level is certainly open to debate, but he did make-good after delivering a bad HV.

I know, he should not have sold a bum HV battery in the first place. I also know that sh*t happens.

Although LA-based, he was willing to meet me in San Diego (again). However, I had other things to do up in The Sprawl Crawl so I opted to meet him in Van Nuys.

Particularly for folks needing HV's delivered anywhere in Socal, here's the vendor's details for reference:
    Aaron,
    "Prius DR,
    12162 Stewarton Drive,
    Porter Ranch, CA., 91326
    818 970-2733"
    $499 w/6-month warranty
    $599 w/1-year " "
    $749 w/2-year " "
This is not an endorsement, just contact info.
He did me bad, but then he made-good.

    Unrelated:
I was about to order the VX Diag Nano but then saw this alternative:
    Luckybuy11
    4.6 out of 5 stars 27Reviews
Toyota Techstream Diagnostic Cable Mini VCI J2534 OBD Scanner V2.0.4 for Toyota Lexus TIS Techstream
What struck me was the dozens of rave reviews regarding their customer support. All other things equal, imo that's a huge advantage.
    Opinions?
    Thanks
