Last night on the highway The EPS warning light symbol on my dash started flickering. IT looks like a steering wheel. It only lasted a few minutes and this happened after the vehicle made a strange sound, like I ran over something. Anyone else experience this? I started looking through the gigantic owners manual. Pg 294 “Indications on combination meter” if I understand the Japa-English technobabble correctly tries to explain the EPS warning light illuminating due to LDA drift?? Help
The lines at the sides of the road often have a pattern of bumps on them that produce a rumble when you drive over them, to alert or even wake the driver. At around that point, if you have LDA on, the Prius will try and automatically steer you back into the lane. I can't remember if a warning light is displayed when it does this, but I imagine it would. Is this maybe what happened?
I use the LDA system often, and every time I drift over a white marker the car beeps and a pop up displays an icon of a car between two lines (annoying) but have never before or since seen the EPS warning light flickering.
While LDA and EPS are both using the power steering - the EPS I suspect is advising of a fault. Had you been doing some driving which was exercising the power steering more than usual immediately prior to that (slalom, mountain range?).
That could explain it - maybe wait till it happens again then. Though it doesn't indicate that the EPS light will come on.
So for the past couple of days I’ve been watching the indicator lights carefully whilst using the LDA system. If I intentionally drift over the white paint lines the LDA pos up and sometimes the EPS warning indicator flickers. I still do not know if this is normal but I will ask a Toyota technician when I bring the car in for its next 10K service. Joking about racin* thru mountain passes. Jeez, can’t you read sarcasm?
