a number of warning lights appeared, would not start nor move out of neutral. Garage man said following codes were given: P0AA6-612 LODGED IN COMPUTER MEMORY INDICATING "SHORT TO GROUND" AND GENERATOR FAULT CODES. WE RECOMMEND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AND CONTINUING DIAGNOSIS IF NEEDED. ($5,OOO) What am I missing here? Had it towed home and it started right up and drove O.K.
Something like that happen on my Prius v a year ago. It was just a dieing 12 volt battery. Replace the battery and haven’t had a problem since.
Sure, if that was the code he got, it means the transmission has to be replaced. In my opinion, you don't have to buy a new one. You can get one from a salvage yard, if you can, replace it yourself. Be sure you got a Toyota WS fluid in the new transaxle. Dxta
Thanks for the reply. I guess I just was not aware that the electrical converter component was integral with the trans-axle. I am not capable of or equipped to do the replacement part. I will attempt to find some that can help or do the job for me.
P0AA6-612 is High Voltage Fault detected in the transaxle or the Inverter. Those are 2 separate devices. There is also the 526 sub code which is a high voltage fault from the Hybrid battery. The car is detecting leaking high volatge. In the trans its from a blown motor winding. if the battery is from a craked and leaking battery module leaking electrolyte and conducting to ground. You have a very old car with probably very high miles. be aware if you go through the trouble and expense of replacing the transaxle the hybrid battery failure is soon to follow. You have alot of reading to do. use the search forums button up top and search: hybrid battery so you can see what hundreds of people are going through right now with there battery's.
