With summer heats here going as high as 115 - 120 F , I am concerned how this would affect the lifespan of the hybrid. As soon as I get in the car , it's burning like an oven , I can't even touch the steering wheel. And using the turn signal sounds like it's low pitched, does anyone else get the same problem? So how well does the battery do, temperature wise?
poorly. run your a/c all the time, try to park in the shade, drive gently, get your windows tinted, clean the cooling fan, etc.
Some people mentioned using the recirculation on the ac is a good idea. And what if there are no shades where i park?
get interior sun screens, try to park with the front toward the sun, the battery is in back. leave the windows cracked if possible.
The silver on the outside suckers that go on the inside of the windshield and good window tinting on the sides and rear, and full steam ahead with the air conditioner, check the air flow to and from the traction for clogs. It’s an 07’ get a new traction battery
Heat is the greatest weakness of these incredibly reliable cars. If I lived in an area as hot as yours. I'd rent a space in a parking garage... It'd probably be way cheaper than the repair bill. Also it has alot to do with the color of your vehicle in terms of heat damage to hybrid battery. I read on here long ago that if you're buying used and live in a hot climate a white Prius battery pack is going to be way longer lasting then a pack in a car that's a darker color.
That battery should outlast your car, don't need to worry about it in heat or no heat. Just go back to enjoying the drive. It'll take a good 8 years to ruin a battery, even in Arizona heat, and you live in California
