Upgrade from non-NAV to NAV would be cost prohibitive. There are too many components to change/add. You would be better off trading in your 07 for an 08 with NAV.

No good. That's a 1st gen system, it won't work in your car. And it's a Euro spec'd piece at that.

Mr. Green, I don't get it. You spend all that money on mods for your Prius, and you buy the model package that doesn't have navigation. Why didn't you just buy the top package if you were going to spend all that money on mods? Surely not for lack of funds because you must have spent a pretty penny on all that stuff. Just wondering. thanks for asking, actually I went to a dealership that didn't know much about the car. I did not realize at the time the advantages of the touring package. In fact the salesman didn't even know how to drive the car, someone else had to come pull the car out for us to test drive. I was not an educated buyer, a mistake on my part. I was told that the only difference was the bluetooth and nav. At the time it didn't seem worth the extra cash, now I know there is more to the touring package than just nav and bluetooth.

A testimate to the value of this website and how important it is for people to do a little research before buying new technology.

out of curiosity how come the nav system is a 2 grand upgrade on the car, yet any sort of dash mounted system that can do basically the same thing is 1/5 to 1/10th the price? Is there really that much going on in it to justify the cost? Or is it simply the whole "we get you with the extras" markup like the excellent high quality floor mats they stick you with.

Not really, no. It's solely the advantage of being integrated. So I have control from the steering wheel, etc etc. That and there's nothing to get stolen.

Dead Reckoning is a nice feature of integrated systems. In areas with weak or no signal, amidst tall buildings, tunnels, etc., the system approximates your position by monitoring your speed and direction.

Bringing an old thread to life. Can I do the reverse. 2009 with nav. Can I downgrade to the 4 button without nav by swapping the mfd? The 7 button unit is going bad.

To answer my own question for the benefit of others, here's what I found. A Prius expert whom I trust told me that you can not downgrade to 4 button. My daughter's car had JBL stereo and requires the proper mfd. I bought a used 7 button unit and all is well.

What about upgrading to the 7 button mfd?
My gen 2 prius has the jbl stereo, sat navigation and reversing camera but only has the 4 button mfd which makes it a pain to program the sat navigation so I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my 4 button display to a 7 button which has come out of the same year as mine?

Hi I’ve been trying to find some answers to this. I was actually told by a repair center that works primarily with Prius that you can do that. You don’t happen to have any update or did you know from experience or just word-of-mouth?
