Smart Key(s) not being recognized

    Yesterday, I had the front windshield of the 2007 Prius I drive tinted. The car worked fine when I picked up the car from the shop, however this morning I wasn't able to enter or start the car without using the manual key and inserting the fob into the slot.

    I read through multiple posts on this topic and so far I've tried the following:
    • replaced fob battery
    • checked 12V battery voltage through dashboard (11.9 - 12.1)
    • checked 'Key' switch to make sure it is out (on)
    • checked for any stuck buttons on the fobs
    • tried using 2nd fob key (to no avail)
    Unfortunately, none of this seemed to help.

    I'm wondering if the tint job has anything to do with this. Possibly fluid found its way to some components during the installation process. I'm not sure.

    I'm hoping others have some advice for me.

    you need a new 12v. or at least charge it up and monitor for a few days. should be at least 12.4 volts.

    generally speaking, tint and other service shops will leave the doors open and other things on with the car in acc mode, running down the 12v.

    There's a SKS button under the steering wheel, by your knee area. Press that and see if anything changes.

    @bisco - everything started working again towards the end of the day on Friday. And so far things seem to be normal.

    Do you think a replacement battery is still needed?

    You got a multimeter :whistle:?

    My bet is they had the doors open and ran the battery low:(.

    Take your Prius for a nice long run (say an hour) before traffic gets bad;).

    I’ll be doing a similar thing to our RX450h Friday :).

    What % tint did you go with?

    depending on the age of the battery, it would be well to monitor it. otherwise, just wait to see if it dies again or replace it prophylactically.

    I think this is right on the money!

    I went with 70% Lumar tint for the front windshield.

    Thanks guys! I’ll keep an eye on it.

    Trying to decide between 50 and 70%. You got a pic :whistle:?

    I’ll be going with Huper Optik ceramic :).

    I’m out of town at the moment and without my car.

    Ceramic is a good choice, more effective at blocking out heat.

    If you want more of a tint on the front windshield, then I would go with the 50%.

    The 70% tint with Lumar is faintly noticeable.
