Plasti-dip stock wheels and other exterior mods

I forgot to take before pictures, but you guys know what a Prius looks like
First I visited Home Depot and Advanced Auto Parts and picked up a few things.


-(4) Knock out Seals (in the electrical aisle)
(I went with 2 inch other people have done 1.5 inch...just a matter of preference)

-3 cans of White Plasti-Dip

-1 Can of Plasti-Dip Black

-1 Can of Plasti-Dip Clea Gloss

-1 Can of Blue Heat Resistant Engine Paint (Dupli-Color)

- Blue Valve Stem Caps

-Masking Tape

First I removed the flying saucers from hidden alloys and clean the wheels with a powerful degreaser.


Dipping the Center-caps (after a little modification on the back tabs)


Make sure you tape everything up well, prep work is 95% the work


After removing tape and peeping off the excess dip... I recommend using a toothpick to get excess dip off (this was the especially useful on the side "hybrid" badges

(Notice I also blackened the plastic trim near the foglight)





Now on to the wheels, At first I masked everything and did the initial coats on the car.... I later decided to paint my calipers blue so I ended up doing the third and fourth coats of white and the gloss with wheels off the car.

I tried mask the tires when I was spraying the final coats, but the tape wouldn't stick and tire shine was the culprit. What I learned from this was that overspray dip comes off tires sooooo stupidly easily if the tires have just regular old tire shine on them. If I am ever going to dip wheels again I will certainly use this hack!!!

When I sprayed the calipers blue I also hit the lugnuts and my already plasti-diped DIY center caps.

The Results:

Notice behind the front wheel, Where the bottom white plastic skirt is joined to the inside wheel well it would have typically been car body colored. I thought this took away from the "-POP-", so I masked that off and dipped as well. I think it is a much cleaner look.



Well they are certainly white





So yeah, that's it for right now... tint next.

 

First off your Prius is dope. You have done soooo much to it and it looks incredible!!!
What are your thoughts, I really want to de-badge the car. Unfortunately all of the research I have done says that 2011 models have holes under ever badge and I don't know if I want to take that on. How do you think it would look is only the side "Hybrid" badges were painted in the same blue as the makeshift center caps vs the black plastic-dip ? My coal is zero "chrome".
