Bought my replacement engine to put mine back on the road. Doing what it was “said” that it can’t be done. Installing Gen 4 engine in my 2010. Everything seems to be in order. Connectors and sensors match up. Should be driving again next weekend if the weather cooperates.

lol, there is way to many of those people who say shit cant be done... Just ignore em and do it, always fun to prove people like that wrong.
Do u expect any better economy? My 2011 uses like 0.55l/10km, while my moms 2016 Auris (same engine as the gen 4 prius) uses 0.35L/10KM which is so much better. I think the petrol engine in the new prius only got like 76hp tho... they upped the electric hp on it from what i know to componsate for the 15 petrol hp they took away. So wouldnt it be slower with the gen 4 engine?

This is from the Prius 2ZR-FXE page so take it for what it’s worth.

The Toyota 2ZR-FXE is a 1.8 L (1798 cc) Atkinson cycle variant of the 2ZR-FE.[8] It has the same bore and stroke, but the compression ratio is increased to 13.0:1, and the inlet valve closing is retarded. The net result is that the engine has a greater effective expansion than compression. Output is 73 kW (98 hp) and 142 N⋅m (105 lb⋅ft) of torque, paired with electric motor/generators in the hybrid drive system; together the engine and electric motors produce up to 100 kW (134 hp) and 207 N⋅m (153 lb⋅ft). Thermal efficiency is about 38.5%.[9]

For the 2016 Toyota Prius, output is 95 hp at 5200 rpm and 142 N·m (105 lb·ft) of torque at 3600 rpm, or when paired with electric motor/generators 53 kW (71 hp) and 120 lb·ft of torque in the hybrid drive system; together the engine and electric motors produce up to 121 hp. Thermal efficiency is about 40%.

If I’m reading this right, I’ve lost 3 gasoline horsepower. But since this engine has 8100 miles and mine had 213k, how do we know I’m not at a net gain?? LoL

3hp? u have lost a total of 13 if thats right lol, which i believe it is, ur electric engine wont componsate for the loss of petrol hp with the electric engine without a tuned ECU (which yet havent been possible to tune apparently). My toyota dealer told us that toyota upped the electric HP on the gen 4 and tuned it down to 76 petrol hp... mhmm.. dont know what to believe on this one lol. My prius is at like 350 000 KM now and it doesnt act different then one thats gone 50 000km, i dont think the hybrid`s looses as much hp as a normal petrol car over the years.

The electric horsepower of my Gen 3 won’t change. It’s still going to be the 36 hp. I have only lost 3. 98-95=3.

But the Gen 4 got more electric HP than the gen 3, and the ECU in the gen3 wont compensate the loss of petrol HP with the electric engine. From what i know the GEN 4 got more electric hp than what that site u quoted said. Here in Norway atleast it has 76 or 78 petrol HP and around 43 electric hp up to a total of 121hp VS the Gen 3`s 99 petrol hp and 35 electric hp up to a total of 134hp. Toyota upped the electric HP and tuned down the petrol engine in the gen 4 so it gets better milage without it being "slower".

Stopped by HybridPit to have my oil catch can (OCC) installed. @RightOnTime sourced the parts for me with an upgraded mounting bracket built by @Burna J

If you plan to keep your Prius you NEED this. It effectively eliminates the hard “knock” when going from EV >> HV.

3 months ago, I had HybridPit clean the EGR valve, throttle body, and replace PCV. Everything was perfectly clean when I drove off... but as you can see in the photos, oil has literally started to accumulate already . It’s crazy to me that Toyota would build the Prius engine to function like this. Alas the need for an OCC.

@RightOnTime installed and and routed the hoses for a clean finish w/ black zip ties (message him for more info). Highly recommended upgrade (y)

But the ECU is still Gen 3 in my car. The gas engine will run as a Gen 3. I still think that with 8100 miles on the replacement compared to 213k on the expired engine, I’ll be at worst the 3 hp loss, or a net gain due to the mileage difference.
