Looking for recommendations on independent shops or mechanics that do side work who specialize in gen 3 prius. Having some issues with the brake booster/accumulator and my car is not within the recall range so I will be fixing this out of pocket. Willing to drive anywhere within DFW, TX area.
I talked to him this morning, he's actually replaced this part on some gen 2's but no gen 3's. He suggested bleeding the brakes first which I'll try but I think this is likely a part replacement based on the symptoms.
someone recently got a goodwill warranty on theirs. they wrote a strong letter to the dealership and toyota. most have been shot down though.
I bought one off ebay and put it in. Nothing to it. Skip the bleeding brakes on the one you have in there now just swap it out. bleeding the front are regular pump, the backs you bleed through tech stream and the little thingy under the hood you bleed with tech stream. Get one off a wrecked car from a seller who will offer a warranty just in case. Get the exact number you have installed now.
I believe on a gen3 the brake accumulator and brake actuator are separate parts. Make sure you don't replace the wrong item
My bad, the booster pump is below the master cylinder. I replaced the master cylinder. The booster pump would be even easier, and cheaper. I was staring at it when I replaced the master cylinder. And you just bleed it. Same as you have to do if you replace the master cylinder. Good luck!
