Tesla has now confirmed that they are delivering the 200K cars in July. Yippee! That means there will be a $7500 tax credit through 12/31/18, $3750 credit through 6/30/19, and $1875 credit through 12/31/19. Tesla naysayers, are ya feeling gloomy?

Bad news for us poor folk who had dreams of a new shiny $35k car. Well I guess I just have to wait for the Mothership to save us all.
If getting the full $7500 is a major influence on your plug in choice, get a Bolt. It starts at $36,620 though, so the difference between it and the $35k Model 3 with $3750 credit isn't that big; about what Tesla once charged for Supercharger network access. Then again, if you can take the full $7500 tax credit, you can afford a more expensive car.
I'd actually consider a smart ED if I lived closer to work. It would be easier to make space for it in my garage.
Excellent news. Many here and elsewhere predicted such and this will help many customers. Along with cross shopping the $35k Model 3, you can take a look at the Hyundai Kona EV and 2019 model year Leaf. After various incentives, they should be within a few thousand of each other. Might it be said that you are as gloomy on Tesla as el Crucero is cheery?
It's not so much that I am anti Tesla, for me it just does not spark the hoopla that others see in it. There is nothing in my eyes that make it exciting enough, that I would wait years for one. But what really concerns me is when you have members of this community who do nothing but post negative remarks against Toyota, on an originally Pruis forum because Toyota is not an early adobtor of EV and believes in other forms of alternative fuels can be made available to the world. Toyota has always provided me and my family with quality, vehicles that have cost me very few dollars in repairs over the life of my vehicles. So yes, I do admire and respect Toyota, and I am willing to wait for them to come out with the next latest and greatest form of transportation, whenever that may be. For now I am still enjoying my Prius that has many years of life left in it.
I will bash them for as long as they forcefeed H2. Why you think it's viable and worth praise because Toyota, I'll never know.

That is a good question and nobody knows for sure. In my opinion, I think Elon will start to deliver a few base models in December, 2018, maybe 5000 to 10,000 and they will get the $7500 tax credit. The question is how will he prioritize these deliveries. I think they will go to Tesla employees first, those who have a reservation. Nobody knows how many of those there are. I hold a day one (prior to reveal) reservation, so I am pretty high on the list. My guess is that I have a 10% chance of getting a base model prior to the end of 2018 (and $7500 credit) and a 100% chance of getting a base model prior to June 30, 2019 (and a $3750 credit)
i think i saw a model 3 coming toward me the other day. not positive, but the nose seemed more blunted than others.

All good points! But what does it mean? We're not comparing Apples to Apples. Mirai is not and EV we get it. But it's an alternative to EV.
Great question. Also interested in what others guess. I would predict that Tesla will technically deliver at least a few of the $35k base models by the end of the year so that a few will get the full $7,500 credit. But I guess that will probably be <2% of the preorders to this point who wanted one (including those originally wanting the $35k trim but have already gone with a higher end trim). Financially, it still makes the most sense for Tesla to continue to offer zero to short wait times for the highest trims with the healthiest profit margins. As for those getting the $3750 credit through 6/30/19, and $1875 credit through 12/31/19, probably well into the double digits. For those that can still get the $3750 credit on a $35k base, would consider that a win. The resale value on these should be quite good in the world of BEVs for some time.
