I don't think the cops here in Texas would approve of that. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. @RCO, I think nailing it to the windshield might be a very bad idea...
Aw shoot! I amended #21 from name to hammer twice.... .. an' it still published name. When the touchscreen gods have it in for a guy, they get get very persistent.
Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2019.30 came out today. It's only 6.60 GB. I'm updating my old Nuvi 255W, a 7" Nuvi 2757-LM, and my 6.95" DriveSmart 61 now. @HPrimeAdvanced PS, it's 6.60 GB on the 6.95" DriveSmart 61 and 4.88 GB on the 7" Nuvi 2757-LM, and only 2.97GB on the Nuvi 255W.

Thanks @Mark57 . Do you know if I can update the map data on a Chromebook OS? I was using Windows OS laptop for the update, but I no longer have a working Windows laptop.
Oops, it looks incomparable with Chromebook. See this Garmin support article. PS, if you can figure out how to install Garmin Basecamp, we can get the maps on it using other methods. Like JaWaWa GMTK.
Thanks for looking it up. I was afraid that is the case. Oh, well... I will keep the current map version until it gets to the point I can't do without the update. If I have to, I may take the unit to work and do the update on my work desktop machine.
Sounds like a quick, efficient solution to me. I can't FTP it to you since the download/install is customized to fit the space on each unit. Not sure how they determine what detail to omit.
Could this be why I've been disappointed with my Garmin Nuvi's errors and omissions this past winter? What I noticed was a lot of speed limit errors in Canada, and sparse coverage of local eateries in both countries. It has a relatively recent late-2019 update, but internal storage is limited to under 4 GB, and 20% of that is still free. So the update process must have needed to omit quite a bit of detail. Its micro-SD card slot is empty, so I'll need to add something to see if that helps. ======== PS. No, my Nuvi 56 is not recognizing a 64GB card, online spec indicates it supports to just 32GB. So the updater wants to give me a 3.42GB version of the map, well short of the 6.90 and 5.17 GB that you are seeing on other devices.
It very well could be. Speed limit errors don't surprise me too much. I submit corrections when I see errors. The lack of POI's (points of interest) is the thing that's going to be omitted first. Roads are a priority, then POI's. The POI's take up more space than the maps do. Some time back I read some info about this on the Garmin site. I have not done it in years but you used to be able to see the coverage area of each map product on their website. You could preview before purchase. My ancient Nuvi 255W with a 4GB card only holds about 2.99 GB of maps. I can confirm it is missing POI's that my other 2 have using the same map. PS, I see the spec says the Nuvi 255W can use a 32 GB card so I'm going to swap and test to see if it fixes the missing items.
Nope, I pulled out the 4GB card in the Nuvi 255W and put in a 32GB card. It still only wanted to install 2.91GB so there is something device specific going on as to how much in installed. I bet adding a card to your 56 will help. 20% free space is probably too low.
So far, no dice. It does recognize a 32GB card I pulled out of a dashcam (and emptied and reformatted), but still offers up only that 3.42GB map.
That seems in line with what my 255W was doing today. It seems counter intuitive that you can't fit more data with more free space but it seems to be limited per the device type. I do remember way way back that it prompted me to add a card on the 255W or it could not update the map. That was many years ago and I've never seen that on the other two Garmin navs. Sorry
After freeing up a couple hundred MB (mostly by deleting support for most other languages), GarminExpress squeezed in a 3.5xGB version of this new update (old was probably 2.9GB), leaving just 0.18GB free, plenty for the logs I allow. All internal, not touching the microSD card, which is now returned to its originating dashcam. I'll get a test trip on it next month.
