Anyone else having the weatherstrip on the door start to wear through? I have had the prius for just over a year and I have a hole in the weatherstrip. I have attached a photo.
Not me. It seems to be raised up there (looking at where the underneath side of the strip touches the metal body of the car). So either it was always like that, and has been work away by the door hitting it, or it's been damaged by a show/something going in or out of the car which has also tugged it up.
I'm inclined to agree. There's also corresponding damage (a nick) to the edge of the plastic trim too. Pixel 2 ?
No nick in the trim, it's just a piece of the weatherstrip sticking up. I went back out and looked at again and it is slightly pulled up. Nothing on the door, so I must have caught it with something. I can't imagine what, though. But that is probably the most plausible explanation. Nope, no dog. LOL, no it's sand. I live in Florida so we get sand in everything.
Driver's door? Could it be an aggressive tread on a shoe - there are some scuff marks on the plastic trim too. It's odd that it's back that far, where your foot wouldn't normally go.
I'm really blind. I never noticed that rubber strip in my car. (Cant see the oil on the dipstick, either.) Back to my Jack Daniel's on the rocks.
Is it aligned with one of the drains in the door, they have plastic inserts, maybe one is sticking out.
Mine. I got just a little mark in the same location as the OP. Its odd, it looks like the rubber is pieced together right there.
A door drain with a plastic insert by chance ? Here's a picture of the rear ones, the fronts are similar. Doordrains by kithmo posted Jul 13, 2018 at 8:00 PM Looking at it, they may be too low to hit that rubber seal though.
Yeah, I'm not sure it lines up. The rubber just looks like it has an odd "patch" right there. But no holes yet.
The scuffs are actually swipe marks from my hand. I was sweeping the dirt and sand off the sill with my hand while I was cleaning the car. I just had not wiped it with a damp rag at that point. That is how I noticed the damage. It was pulled out a little there, so I think I caught it with something and damaged the weather strip myself. There is nothing on the door that lines up with that spot that I can tell.
that's pretty tough rubber. hard to believe you could damage it without knowing. looks more like an animal chewed on it.
