Hello everyone, I recently just did a bunch of maintenance on my prius. When I finished all of the maintenance, I drove it for about 20 mins on surface streets and it didn't seem to have issues. The next day I drove it on the freeway for about 4 miles and the check engine light illuminated. I don't have an OBD scanner so I went to AutoZone and they pulled a P0441 code but weren't much help in what I need to do to get it resolved. The maintenance I performed was: spark plugs change, changed both coolants, changed transmission fluid, replaced PCV valve, cleaned intake manifold and the intake metal holes of the engine block, cleaned the egr pipe and the intake leading to the cooler assembly. I didn't touch the EGR cooler/valve. I'm guessing the code has something to do with one of the maintenance items I performed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
P0441 is part of the evaporative emissions system. Could be just the fuel cap not on tight. Or a vacuum hose? I just got a Prius, and now 2 error codes P0441 P0455... | PriusChat
Thanks for your reply! I checked the fuel cap yesterday when I was refueling and made sure it clicked once and it felt like it was tight. I then drove a hundred more miles and the light is still on. Maybe I left a vaccuum hose unattached... looks like I'll have to unfortunately go back and take it all apart again.
Check the o ring on the gas cap. They have been known to fail a time or 2. The code of for a gross vacuum leak so I would look for a vacuum hose not attached. Most likely culprit is the PCV hose. Good luck and keep us posted .
If it's a false alarm it should go off in 5 or 6 start ups. Check everything's connected, but it should have lit up right away if that was the cause: MAF sensor for example?
I turned it on and off multiple times and it hasn't cleared so I'm guessing something isn't connected properly. I ordered an OBD scanner arriving on Thursday so I'll take a further look then. Thanks for all your suggestions so far!

I had the same problem, a month ago I cleaned the IM & it's components, including the PCV, and 3 months ago I changed ALL the coils and spark plugs, then it threw the p0441, so this week I cleaned the egr & cooler. Reset the code and within 40 miles it gave me 4 codes: P0302, P0304, P0401, and P0441... Is it possible that I didn't connect something or maybe didn't tighten down a bolt properly? Why would the 2 & 4 cylinders misfire after I cleaned the egr & cooler
Let me know if you figure it out! I cleared the code with and OBD2 but haven't had the chance to drive it yet to see if it comes back. I still have to also go back in and check everything is connected.
Possibly the EGR channels in the intake manifold are plugged in cylinders 1 and 3 diverting all the EGR into 2 & 4? Pixel XL ?
That's an interesting point. Luckily I don't have to drive my car everyday since I work from home so I have it apart again with the cooler and the EGR off. The plunger on the EGR I had no movement and so i r e cleaned it and use some WD-40 on the plunger with little movement after the fact. I'm going to just order a used cooler and EGR valve clean those up and install those and hopefully that will fix all of the problems. It's only been a few months since I cleaned my intake manifold but I figure since I'm now just cleaning the EGR that I should just go back through it while I have everything apart. So in the next couple days I'm going to plan on doing that. I read somewhere on here that Toyota telling us to use the new Denso iridiyam TT spark plugs so I used those when I replace my spark plugs a couple months ago. Maybe it's possible that those wore out faster because I didn't clean the EGR system and they're different from stock? I'm not sure but I also read on this forum that the gaps might be off when they come in the box and that someone use the Bosch plugs because the Gap was closer to what the manual says it should be. Has anybody else tried different kinds of spark plugs in their car?
I also replaced my spark plugs with the Denso TT ones, not sure if that's related to the 0441 code though.
