Sun Shields?

I got this external one and like it.
Reflective with some insulation.Gen 3, but I don't think there's much difference in window size.

This may be worth a try: Magnets and elastic loops may improve it a bit.

Have not found anything internal that fits, and stays up. Most at too small and/or floppy. It's easier to deal with an external large shade than an internal one.

 

Gen 4 was a total redesign including a different chassis. I doubt Gen 3 would fit. That is why there is a separate Gen 4 category here.

 

I'd be thinking about one of those canopies you can drive the whole car under; UV is tough on so much, the headlights for example.

Is it impossible/impractical to clear space in the garage? That'd be my number one solution.

 

I have a Covercraft UV11447SV that I purchased from Amazon. I fits great and doesn't interfere with the mirror, scangauge II, radar detector, or front camera. The sun visors helps hold it in place and it folds up nice.

 

I definitely need an external one because I have a dash cam to take into consideration. I'm just afraid somebody will walk by and swipe it.

 

Mine has tabs that are closed in the door on both sides. Possible to yank it out or cut it I suppose. OTOH it's not all that expensive an experiment.

 

What if it rains?

 

Once the sun's rays enter the car through the glass the heat is trapped inside. An external cover makes a lot of sense, but no matter what you use, eventually the car will become the same temperature as the air around it. Where I park, that is over 110 degrees through the summer months.

Incidentally, if you use an external one, they're fine as long as you don't do what an ... acquaintance did. It had rained and he spread it out across his bonnet/hood to dry before he put it inside. The water underneath it and the heat of the sun cooked the paint and it bubbled. Whoops. But that's a problem with an external one if you use it away from home - and it's wet, you have to put it inside wet.

 

Rain is seldom a problem in the land of solar power and high taxes.

 

That would be a LOT cooler than a normal closed car baking in the sun.

Even when an inside shade helps reduce the temperature rise, it will still be higher than an external shade.

 

i like the Heatshields bought from the Priuschat shop. (Front & back) I've used them every day for 2.5 years. The front one is just now starting to get floppy and loose. The heat got to it! Almost 100 degrees every day. Probably 110 inside the car. Even with dark tint.

I'm glad I bought 2 of each. I got spares.

I have used a Covercraft front window cover in each of my vehicles for a long time. In South Carolina these window covers are essential. The Covercraft window cover does an outstanding job of keeping solar heat out of the car and is worth every penny of the $50+ cost. The Covercraft is made from a thick honeycomb material with a reflective material on the front. If you are careful putting them in and out of the window they will last many years. It’s not a flimsy piece of junk like what you get at Walmart. Each Covercraft is made for your vehicle...not a one cover fits every vehicle made.

I can’t recommend the Covercraft highly enough.

With my windows tinted to the SC state legal limit and the Covercraft front window cover my interior stays as cool as possible.

 

It gets wet. Shake it off, fold it up, throw it in the trunk.
Note, the external cover is a distinct advantage for snow or frost. Peel it off and you are good to go....except for the other windows.

It came nicely folded in a cute bag. You would need the skill and patience of an experienced packer to put it back in. Doubt it will ever see the inside of that bag again.

 

Your Prius has a trunk?
Mine has a carpeted cargo area that is an extension of the passenger compartment.
