Wanted to add my tic mark on the forum for Gen 4 owners. I just upgraded to the G4 '18 3 touring from the G2 '08 Base Base. 10 years makes a huge difference. This car is awesome. Loving it so much. 36 miles on it and many many more to come. 15310803822711992672892.jpg

Wife and I are considering trading in the 2010 G3 for some form of G4. There are so many versions now I really am having trouble figuring out which one to select. Anyone have some opinions on which G4 model really is the best version? The most successful at being a great Prius?

It's real simple, buy the one with the option you like.
Except for Prime it's all in the options.

That really depends on what is important to you. Historically I have looked for safety features but they are now standard across all trims. If a spare tire is important that restricts you to trim two, three, or three touring. For me the cost difference between the two and three was not worth it. The main “want” the three had was 3 door SKS.
I am happy with my trim two but wish it had the additional safety features added in late 2017.
This assumes you are buying new. 2016 did not have the standard safety features and early 2016 could not change speedometer units. 2017 added many safety features as standard. Mid 2017 they added blind spot monitoring and a couple more. Some 2018 trims have the larger center screen.

2 things I wouldn't want to be without are the Heads Up Display and RADAR Cruise - not sure if they're on all models.

Check the seat comfort, the leather (fake) seats are a bit different from the cloth seats and could influence your decision.

Unfortunately you cannot get the fake leather seats AND a spare tire in the US. :(

Thanks for the feedback. I do want a spare, but I'm okay with the temporary tire (that what our 2010 has). I think we'll be fine with Softex as long as it is generally similar to leather. Neither one of us can tolerate cloth seats.

How are the cabin ergonomics in G4s? I find the G3 cabin is adequate without any acute issues. Also, the front seats - how are they on long drives? The G3 seats have been pretty good - long trips are decently comfortable.

I just checked. That narrows your choice down to the Three Touring.

That's what I'm seeing as well. The 3 Touring seems like a pretty good fit to our needs. The 4 Touring has some really nice features, but there's that dang tire repair kit problem.

I did read that people who have bought models with the tire repair kit feel that it is inadequate. In fact some said they bought a better quality pump and repair kit. This seems silly to me. Is there not a space in the cars with repair kits to put a temporary spare at all? One that you buy yourself and put in the car? We like to visit the city of Marfa out in west Texas. There are truly remote areas out there with no cell service where having a flat could be dangerous if you didn't have a reliable spare. A repair kit doesn't give me a feeling of security.

Actually there is space for a full size spare tire since there is one market where that is provided.

The three touring is the best bet. I have the leather and fog lights with spare tire. Its comfortable and compared to g3 the cabin is more relaxed but improved overall feels like a gen 2 upgrade.

Maybe That's for the 2016. I wonder if the options are that different for 2018?

Post 13 is a snip from the 2018 brochure on Toyota's site listing the Softex seats in addition to the Three, which has the spare. i did not want to post Toyota's whole pdf here.
