Does anyone tow with their Prime? Also has anyone put this wiring kit on? Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring C56371 If so how did you route the wiring under the car? Was easy on my 2012, but the traction battery on the Prime is where I previously routed the trailer wiring on the '12. Looking to tow under 1k pounds, likely in the 500 range.
No, but I did haul 4 - 2x4x10's and then went back and hauled 2 - 2x4x16' boards. My son had my Tundra. I was bummed. Used about 6 towels to protect the interior!
There is a thread here about the empty space under the traction battery, and how to get to it. That could be a wire route. Here's the thread I found the missing 4" (vertical) in the trunk. It is below the battery. | PriusChat
I am easily towing a small Harbor Freight trailer (300 pound Yamaha TW200 dual sport motorcycle). I also have a roof rack and roof carrier. This is with a 2009 G2 Prius. It would be disappointing, if you can't with your 2017. I thought the newer Prii were rated to tow OFFICIALLY. Simba
The official tow rating for the Prius is still 0. It has a 750kg rating in Europe and elsewhere. The reason for the difference is in the trailer regulations. US ones transfer more of the trailer's weight onto the car and its frame. Europe calls for trailer brakes at lower weights, and the weight distribution they use on a trailer makes them less stable at highway speeds. The Prius finally got a to rating because Toyota finally installed a cooler for the overworked automatic transmission fluid they use in the hybrid transaxle. The Prime is heavier than the Prius, with most of that extra weight in the back. It doesn't have a tow rating at all.
