How can I disable the beeper warning when switching into reverse? It's annoying as hell and the dealer wants to charge me $50 to do it. Is there a way for me to do it myself?

FWIW the dealer I purchased the car from changed to one beep for free. Are you asking the dealer you purchased the car from or another dealer?

Beyond that there is a way with an OBD2 device and the proper software to do it for free minus of course the cost of the device and software.

Actually my son in law also has a new Prius and his dealer said they would charge him. I haven't asked my dealer yet. The one beep option sounds like a good idea to me. It's the constant beeping that's so annoying

I had my dealer change the beep when I got the 5K tire rotation. This is not the dealer I purchased the car from.

I insisted that it be a condition of purchase, that it be changed (fixed!!). I'd ask to speak to the Manager - see what can be done.

My dealer changed mine to one beep without any problems at all and for free. I wanted it completely disabled but they said that wasn't an option in the settings (USA vehicle).
One beep is better than nonstop though.

One beep is the minimum here - better than Eternity like factory sets it.

I used the Carista phone App and a bluetooth OBD adapter, it's cheaper than the dealers.

They paid you?? My dealer did it for free even though I bought the car elsewhere.

The Carista is a good investment of $25. It can do more than disabling the reverse beep.

I told my dealer my wife wouldn't continue to drive the car if it was set to continuous. They set it to one beep for free.

My dealer tried to charge me as well.
My solution was to tell him that it could be his again if he does not do it for free.

Just had it done this morning for free. Just tell service guy you were told it would be changed for free during the free service, or that your salesman told you they would do it for free.

Does anyone know where the actual beeper is? I don't mind the continuous beeping but I would like to put a piece of duct tape over it to knock the volume down.

I think it's coming from under the dash - probably using the same noise generator as beeps for other errors etc.

I've been looking but it's like trying to pinpoint a cricket. Every time I put my ear where I think it might be it sounds like it's coming from somewhere else.

Just get your dealer to program it like they should have before delivery. If you mute it, it'll probably mute all essential sounds.

Agree, mine was done at no charge. Don’t ask them, tell them to do it.

I had mine changed to one beep for free, but I was also in for the 60k mile service and was paying over $300 for the transmission to be serviced along with the engine oil change. Guess the dealership figured 3 years of listening to that stupid beep was long enough. I also had it done at the same dealership I bought the car at new and have had most of the service done with them. (On a first name basis with the service advisor)
