Let Toyota know that you'll accept the deal, but you'd like to find a dealership that has a better price. The price of the OEM battery from that dealership is too high. $1,500 off is a good deal. Maybe it would also apply for a battery that you can install through someone else? It pays to ask.

Toyota should be ok with it because I think they are the ones paying for the discount. AFAIK, the dealership is not giving you a break.

For the time it would take to get the battery, with only 1 year warranty, not worth it.

Hometown hybrids had the same NEW toyota battery, but with a 3 year 75k mile warranty.

It's installed, amd working great. They reset the code, and itbhasnit came back on. Battery charges and discharges like it should. $2295 installed in my driveway was a decent deal.

it's a great deal. if you're within their travel range, you're very fortunate.

They are in my range. I had them scheduled for today. Installed new battery, his OBD2 scanner couldn't reset the check engine code, took it to autozone, explained we just replaced the battery, autozone guy stated corporate doesn't want them doing it but he went ahead and tried it. Worked out, no more check engine light or hybrid failure mesaage. Drove the car 100 miles around dallas and everything is still working fine. New battery charges and discharges just fine.

$2295 for New battery, 3 yr, 75k mile warranty, and install on my drive way. I have to say, I am Happy with it.

weird they can rebuild batteries, but don't have an effective prius scanner.

Just for the record, the Toyota warranty for a new battery installed by them is 3 years/unlimited mileage. It is 1 year only if they don't do the installation.

I found it odd that he didn't hVe an update scanner to be able to reset a code he was coming out to fix.

Service guy told me warranty was 1 year unlimited miles no matter who does the install. IllI call the parts department tomorrow at another dealership to see what they say.

Well, regardless of what they say (mine said 1 year too, until I educated them from a post I found here. It took 3 calls, but when he called back the 3rd time he said he confirmed that it is indeed 3 years/unlimited).

Here is an official Toyota document provided by another member:

That's awesome. Wish I knew that earlier. I already got the work done by hometown hybrids. I was in a little bit of a time crunch.

the warranty has been a source of great confusion for dealers, as well as corp. phone answerers.

Indeed it has. Probably doesn't help that the warranty changed two years ago.

I can't get past the dealer wanting to charge you $900 labor for a two hour job... Even on a Gen3, customer pay is only 4.3 hours. $900/4.3hrs is $209/hr labor rate...

That alone is reason not to give them your money... Outside of warranty, independent specialist is the way to go.

I just got a rebuilt battery from HomeTownHybrid for my 2005 Prius, works good, not a single problem.
    I highly recommend them.
