Hey Steve - yeah Jim Coleman is one of the dealers I'm working with..... Their discounted price includes the $3500 toyota rebate. They said they could take an additional $1000 off so its more like $1750 dealer discount, plus $3500 toyota rebate. That's still a far cry from the pricing you and others referenced. Did they flat out offer you that $3000 off sticker or advertised it?

Hi. This may not be the right place to put this but have not had a chance to read all the the thread.
Good news is asked for my Prius C for trip the other day because she felt more comfortable in it than her Chrysler 200S convertible.
I interpret that as, we ARE getting a new Prius Prime :D

We live in Florida and obviously not many here for us. We are not afraid to travel to get one.
    Questions.
    1. The deals page asks for zip code. Do we just randomly pick zips looking for deals? We used to live in NJ and I see in NJ (07731) they are doing up to 5000 rebate but that looks like it includes military and college grad which neither of us have so it would be about 3500 and we can visit family too :)
    2. Is it easy to get the state rebate being from out of state or is that something we'd have to haggle for?
    3. When doing a deal like this, will they register the car in my home state or will we have to do that on our own?

Thanks so much. Anyone one here from Florida can share Florida tips?

I live in Greensboro NC and easily negotiated a deal with Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda Maryland for ~$3000 off sticker and $3000 Toyota rebate (now $3500) for a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced. Add in the $4500 Federal Tax incentive and you have an awesome deal. I had no issues whatsoever—drove 7 hours one way to get there—and Jim Coleman took care of the North Carolina tag, taxes and title. Smooth!

Hi. I am in Lithia, south fo Tampa and am thinking of doing the same. Could questions.
Any issue with buying a 2017 when it might have been on the lot for a year?
Was it a tough negotiation and is there a specific person I might be able to reach to for a similar deal?

Full disclosure this makes it sound like you got $6000 off. The truth is that you didn't - much much less in fact. Participating in threads like this on several other forums, people should be careful how they state prices in this thread. The price we can share knowledge about, should refer to the SALES price, aka before doc fee and sales tax is added in, and obviously don't talk about money down or trade in equity. Sales tax = price off msrp (this includes dealer negotiations and manufacturer rebates).

That said, this thread has been very helpful for me, even with a bit of confusion here and there! Hoping I can maybe get a prime next weekend....

With my deal, you have no idea what you are talking about. Were you there when I made my deal? Do you have my sales contract in front of you? Have you done extensive research on my trade with 6 other dealerships? Do you have a crystal ball? No, you don’t. I’ve been very straightforward with my deal, both in private conversations with people on this forum and on public posts. I received the $3000 rebate, and they gave me $3250 more for my trade than any one of the other 6 dealerships I spent tons of time negotiating with, so I got $6250 total off the sticker. That is before any taxes or dealer doc fees or tag/title fees are included. How can they give me $3250 more than anyone else offered me for my trade? Because they can do it with the discount available to them off the sticker. So to me, based on the two months of looking at 7 dealerships, I got $6250 off the sticker. I also have an additional $4500 coming back to me in April 2019. Now, maybe my trade was worth more up there in Maryland. But based on the deals I tried to make here in North Carolina, I got $6250 off. Again, I’ve communicated that to everyone who has asked. Just for the record, I paid no sales tax in NC because my trade was worth more than the new Prime. Additional fees I paid: $299 document fee and $120 for NC tag and title. That’s it. So you believe what you want, and we can agree to disagree. I’m cool with that.

Brand new owner of a 2017 Advanced here. I paid $28500 before fees/taxes/tags/etc at Jim Coleman. Very smooth deal, thanks to all for the recommendations (I have been lurking).

Hi Steve, I'm sorry you're taking this so personal; I really wasn't trying to attack you. I wasn't there but the salesman told me your sales price. I understand you thinking the great trade value they gave you factors into the overall picture - it certainly does. Similar to me, my trade in value is just as important as the money they're taking off sticker. HOWEVER, in general, to keep consistent discussion in threads like this, its best to simply say the amount off msrp, including all dealer discounts and rebates. IF you got a crazy trade in value, you could mention that as a sidenote. But as an outsider viewing this thread, reading your post, it sounds like you got $6250 off sticker period, because you don't even mention a trade. The sales tax credit is the same thing for me too - which is why I want to trade in my car, so I don't have to get hit by sales tax again heh.

Regardless, some very good deals on what seems like a really great car, thanks. Still thinking about making the leap :)

So you got about $6000 off sticker ($3500 rebate and $2500 markdown)—correct?

Correct, the discount was around 2250 and rebate was 3500. I did zero negotiation to see if I could get a lower price, that was the initial offer and it was much better than any dealerships in my area.

Edit: Also, I didn't have a trade in. They also had the option of financing with Toyota for 0.9% (if you qualify), but if you did that you wouldn't get the rebate.

LOL—not taking anything personal. Just defending myself. If you go back and look at my other posts regarding this subject you will find that I do indeed state that my deal was complicated as I did have a high end trade. And when others sent me private coummications as you did, I explained about my trade. I did TONS of research and negotiated with several dealerships over a two month period. I know exactly what my trade was worth and how much I got off the sticker. With a trade, it’s impossible to state what you got off the sticker without including the trade in value—which is one of the variables that makes up the overall calculation. In my case, they had $3000 leadway with the dealer discount off sticker. They can give that to me in one of two ways—they can show my trade as $46,000 and reduce the retail price by $3000, or they can show my trade as $49,000 with very little sticker discount. They did the latter. And they are going to tell you that I only got a couple hundred off the sticker so they can get more money from you. I think it’s been proven in this thread that Jim Coleman gives roughly a $3000 discount off the sticker in addition to the $3000 (now $3500) rebate. I think someone just posted that they received $6000 total off of a Prime at Jim Coleman. Hey—I wish you luck on your deal—and no hard feelings. Nothing taken personal—and I would continue to play hardball with Coleman until you get $6k off. Good luck.

We are worried about toyota rebate $5000 for guys that are out of state. Please confirm that it's not an issue.
We are in SF, California and buying Prime Advanced in NY. Also, I was offered Premium Advanced for $26,500 + TTL. Is that a good deal?

    Hello Friends,

We currently own a 2009 Prius and its time to add another Prius. I will not be trading in the current Prius as it has over 240,000 Miles and more worth to us than any trade in value.

We have not bought a new car since 1997 so am totally out of the buying 'game' for many years.

    Questions:

    1. I am a Resident of Michigan (ZIP 48820). Can I still buy out of State and get the other State's great deals?
    2. Which State within a 1000 Mile to me has the best current deal? We don't mind driving to buy the new car.

I really appreciate the help. I can do some homework on my own once I am pointed in the right direction.

    Thank you all in advance.

    Simba

Hello to both of you. I live in NC and drove to Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, Maryland to finalize my deal. It was a long, but pleasant 7 hour drive one way through Thomas Jefferson-land to Maryland (DC). Worth it in a "bigly" way.

Yes, I got all the discounts and rebates applicable in Maryland. And Jim Coleman took care of the title paperwork and registration in North Carolina--they did it all. They even appraised my trade via pictures and we worked out a deal before I agreed to drive up there. Upon arrival, there were no tricks or surprises--it was smooth. They gave me much more for my trade than any dealership around me here in NC.

I think the following is a great deal for any of the remaining 2017 Primes at any of the NE dealerships with big Toyota rebates:
Without a trade: 7% off the sticker price + $3,500 rebate (Maryland). I've found that the dealerships with the $5000 rebate (NY for example) will not be very kind with the additional off the sticker price. I'm getting the $4500 federal tax credit as well--what a deal!

Good luck--I hope it works out for you as well as it did for me!

Do know you’re gonna miss out on the CA $1,500 rebate for buying out of state. Also, if distance and shipping charges are a concern, you may wanna check out Oregon & Washington where they have $3k rebate and are offering another $3k off with dealer discount on email/internet inquiries I made.

    PS
I didnt declare that I was a CA buyer when I inquired so I am not sure if the pricing was gonna change for out of state buyers in this case

Yes. I believe they changed the rules back in January.

Here’s the FAQ under the cleanvehiclerebate. org help section

Can I purchase the vehicle out of state?
No, vehicles purchased or leased outside of California are not eligible for CVRP.
