Okay so my brother came home from college and my mom let him use her brand new Toyota Prius Prime. (Bad Idea). Painters recently came to repaint the house and we were remodeling my moms basement so most of the basement was in the garage and this made for a bad time parking in the garage and the front passenger door got scratched right at the end and the rear passenger door got dented and scratched real bad. I would like to know the cost of what it would be. I was assuming that the front passenger door would just need a repainting or a touch up and since the car is so new id rather have all this work performed by Toyota. I just want to know the cost so when my mom goes to the dealership we know what to expect and don't get sticker shock. Both doors still open and close normally and nothing else seems to be damaged. Help would be appreciated! Thanks

Covered by Comprehensive Insurance? Same thing that covers chipped/broken windshields and vandalism. Generally covers damage not caused by collision and typically has a low deductible.

I'd second the previous comment: use your insurance, contact a professional body shop. There is no point to "having all this work done by Toyota". Body shops are the pros for this.

Make no assumptions as to how the repair should be handled, what's the scope of damage, and how much should be repainted. If you go in with preconceived notions as to the scope, stipulate for example that just the hatch should be painted, you WILL end up with paint mis-match. The trick is to paint the repair zone, and then blend out, diluting the paint until it's finally just clear.

Ok gotcha. Still, let them assess and propose best course. You want to hear words like "blend". If the whole hatch (for example) needs repainting just due to damage, the paint should go further, blend it out in adjacent panels. Otherwise, it will show.

Okay that’s what I want to know. This helps a lot because I’m sure they’ll do a great job but I want to know what words I should hear so I don’t get screwed

Don't have the body shop fix the small dent. Have a paintless dent removal guy take the dent out. You will save money and keep it free of bondo or new sheet metal. Then once the dent is fixed have a body shop fix the paint. This is the best way to fix such light body damage.

Also any professional body shop will blend the paint, but since the car is new the paint has not faded, blending is going to be a piece of cake.

So I talked to my dad about the issue and he recommends just taking the car back to the dealer and get the money from it. Should I do that my mom has wanted to trade the car in for a BMW but I'm telling her its probably not worth it? But I will definitely check out some paintless dent guys in my area

what does 'take the car back to the dealer and get the money from it' mean?(n)

she just bought a new prime and she wants to trade it for a beemer?

in either scenario, she is going to get clobbered financially.

Confused? New car, trade in on another new car?
How does that fix the issue of fixing the Prime?

Like take it back to Anderson Weber Toyota and just return the car as is. I know we’re taking a big loss but my brother screwed the doors up a lot worse than we thought and most body shops want close to 2,000 for the repair and we have other problems with the engine going on my middle brothers Prius and a tree fell on my dads Kia Sorento and damaged the front end pretty bad! So we’re kinda stuck as to what to do with the car. Just consider this forum solved and I’ll figure it out. Thanks for all your help! I’ll definitely consider the dentless repair guys but I think if we do go the repair we’re gonna need a new door entirely. Thanks for your guys’s help! Really I have a lot more options now that I never would have thought of
