I actually just diy'd a quad bixenon retro on my Prius using RX350's and G5-R's and I'm really curious what you're gonna do with your headlights, it's hard to imagine an upgrade from those output shots you posted, very nice!

My plan is to a customize a set of 2012 to 2015 oem led headlights. I am a bit concerned about the output in comparison to my current set up tho if u can give some input.

That's a nice looking retrofit. :) I've got some RX400h's in my Gen-2 with TSX lenses. Makes a world of difference.

Thanks toaster. You know how it goes with cars. U can't ever leaving it alone the updates are never ending. My biggest fear is the led set up turning into a downgrade

I'm not a super knowitall about the lighting stuff but I did a fair amount of research over the years, and 3 or 4 projector retros by now, and everything I found seemed to indicate that today it would still be difficult to find LED projectors that match the output (particularly highbeam throw) of what i would consider top-tier OEM bixenon projectors like the RX350's, and when you start adding additional performance to those top tier bix projectors such as CBI or XV bulbs, tuned/cleared lenses, shield mods, true 50/55 watt HID ballasts, etc etc. I stopped looking at LED options like the OEM corolla units or the koito biled projectors pretty quickly.

Now that's not to say LED doesn't have it's merits, and the OEM Prius LED headlamps do look really cool from outside, but unless (and maybe even if) your plan involves soldering in different LEDs, higher amperage drivers, etc. etc. I think from a purely light output standpoint, there's a good chance you may see it as a downgrade.

That pretty much hits it on the head.

LED output today is still subpar compared to a set of good HID lights. And you have excellent looking lights. The RX's are known for their super awesome and even throw. Suffice to say, any LED mod will be a step backwards in light output guaranteed. But they should last much longer, that's their advantage today. Headlights that last the life of the car, and you better hope so because they're ridiculously expensive to replace!

Give me HIDs anyday. I am actually considering (if I ever get some time) to try and cram some RX projectors into my Leaf's LED lights. The LEDs are crap on the road, I feel like I am driving with halogens since I've had HID retrofits since 2002/2003 era and been spoiled.

Well I used to have a full on HID set up on a retrofit, decided to upgrade to full Morimoto LED set up, the brightness is amazing plus the cutoff is sharp. Highly recommended.

We also have a Leaf, lol car bro's! Ours is a leased '17 model SV with the halogen reflector hi/los. They're garbage on low beam, and possibly even worse on high beam, no throw, no width, inexplicable dark spots, like honestly I don't even feel safe, but I'm not gonna retro it, at least not until we decide if we're gonna buy it after the lease term, and it also looks like a retro could be somewhat painful with that headlight design, idk. But I love literally everything else about that car
