Does anyone have the iPhone 8 Plus AND the white center console? I thought I had plenty of room for the new phone when I ordered it but the charging tray is a fraction of an inch too small to accommodate it. But I also have the black cover which takes up some space. I'm thinking of taking it off but I'd like to be sure that will solve my problem. I never cared about the black cover in the first place but it came with the car. So does your iPhone 8 Plus lay flat in the porcelain white console?
Yes, I have an iPhone 8 and an Apple case. My phone lays flat in the charging station without issue. Sometimes it moves right to left and loses connection, but the amber light keeps me informed.
Looking at the photos of the insert, it looks like it would reduce the size of the tray by much more than the thickness of the plastic at least - removing it is likely to increase the width: The original has a widened section which isn't followed by the insert (at least the one above - there might be variants)
I have the tray and it also has quite a tick bottom to it so I would have thought that would reduce the efficiency of the charge too? You are correct too in that it definitely makes the volume of the tray smaller.
It sort of sucks I can't use the wireless charger. It was part of my decision to get that model phone. But I should have looked into the dimensions. It's just that the charger bay is so big and my iPod looked so small in it, I thought it wouldn't be a problem. Perhaps I'll go to an iPhone X in two or three years. My bad.
I've grown to appreciate the "holding" charge of my wireless charger. It's finally proven to be an asset.
Try to forget about it, if you can. Regret is such a futile emotion and seldom brings any joy. Beware of the size of the iPhone X! I understood it was the biggest iPhone of all at the moment, so that might not fit.
Don't feel too bad about not being able to use the wireless charging feature. I have an iPhone X. I find that if I am using the phone at all, wireless charging will, at best, charge the phone VERY slowly. If I am going to use the phone for any reasonable period of time, I plug it in using a short charging cable to an Anker charger (the charger with cable is stored in the console box). When I do use wireless charging, I do need to check every so often and make sure the charger is not malfunctioning (indicator light blinking orange). I lift the phone from the charger and place it down again to reset. I think that the malfunction is caused either by a small foreign object on the pad or by the phone shifting. So while wireless charging is a nice convenience, I don't think it's a "to die for" feature.
I couldn't agree more! At present, I believe they're a bit of a gimmick and stopped using mine. The old Nexus 6 (not 6P) barely fitted the bed, but my current Huawei P9 (was new once upon a time) doesn't have the ability at all, so cable charging it is!
Yep, I got the 8 plus. Won't fit, and won't charge. I'm ok just using the old-fashioned plug-in charging cord, when needed. (Which is very rare.) Keep life simple.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s8 plus which is longer than iphone 8 plus but narrower. It fits and charges but not fast enough to sustain using google maps for navigation. For that you need to use cable.
The charger is in a poor location for those of us that use our phones 'like a Garmin' and need it mounted up near the dash..or some other viewable location. It would be completely useless to me.
I have an 8+ and keep it in a Magpul vinyl case. It does not lie exactly flat in the Qi charging tray, but still charges. I've had no problems with it at all, which was a pleasant surprise. My Qi phone holder mounted on the drivers window glass, on the other hand, will not charge the phone when the ambient temperature in the car is high. This is a common occurrence where I live during the summer. YMMV, of course.
