Since our primes have 1/8 gallon slash marks, just wondering how far people run their gas tank down until refilling. I have yet to run down to “low on fuel” indicator. But reading some threads here, people have driven quite far after it comes up on the gauge cluster. For me it’s about 40miles remaining and still no low on fuel warning. Thoughts?
i think there's about 2 gallons left, if i owned one, i wouldn't use more than one unless it's an emergency.
I don’t think the marks represent equal interval gasolene levels. My simple observation is that the bottom marks represent smaller amounts of gas than the top marks.
When empty indicator comes on, you still have at least 1.5~2 gallons of gas. I have driven at least 100 miles after empty indicator came on. You have at least a gallon of gas after the mile range reaches --- (zero) on display. If you saved battery charge, you can easily go another 100 miles from that point. Thanks for the input. I won’t need to be so tense when that indicator comes on. Good to know I am not as near to empty as once feared.
Gen3 and Gen4 Prii have a significant safety or reserve margin beyond 'distance remaining' reaching zero. This contrasts against my current generation Forester, which has no margin beyond that point, but instead provides more and better warnings of approaching lack of fuel.
We took my wife's v on a 1,100 mile trip. I put the GPS on the dash in front of the gas "gauge". We didn't hear the low gas audible alert, and suddenly realized that we were scraping bottom. We were on I-95 in S Carolina, and pulled over to the first gas station (We didn't shop for the best price ) It took about 10.5 gallons, as I recall. As empty as I ever want to be.
