Interesting. I have seen 112mph with yet more oomph left over, but only with EV energy still available. The car did feel governed to about 103 or so without any EV left. Of course this should only be done at places like Willow Springs raceway, where the Alfa Club races. It is the nature of the human to test boundaries; many don't; some do. It should be done under controlled conditions with a top condition vehicle with proper tires (my replacement Michelins were rated to over 115mph, and properly inflated and balanced) and good driving conditions. It's nice to know that your little econobox Phenom can keep with 99% of the "cars" out there and still return ridiculously good economy with superior reliability! From your location, you can use Route 66 Raceway or Byron Dragway. You might also be able to use the back straight at Blackhawk Farms (fun track to run).
Yeah, but I can't figure out how you can get it through the front door! Oh give me a home Where the Buffalo Roam and I'll show you a house full of s***!! (Buffalo Blessings?!) Har, har Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. AChoiredTaste.com
If you're going 100 mph, it'll go right through that front door. But I'm pretty sure it'll scuff the paint.
Yeah, but Mr. Jerrymildred, I've got door edge guards! That should protect the car no?! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. AChoiredTaste.com
Was it in ev mode? or was the ICE running? Some roads here have radar and cameras that will catch you speeding on some highways. Pretty advanced. And probably costly.
Right! Thanks for the clarification. I'd say you're good. Go for it! LOL! This reminds me of a forklift driver I used to work with. True story. He was bringing a scrap hopper back to the press I was running. He hit the pallet cart so hard that it smacked into a control station hard enough to shut off the press. He told me, "I thought that if I went fast enough, it would fit." Later, he destroyed an overhead door because he didn't lower the mast on his lift and they finally fired him.
When you go over 84 miles an hour the ICE kicks in automatically, if you're in EV mode. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. AChoiredTaste.com
Yup. It certainly allowed my car to go faster as long as I had any EV charge left. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. AChoiredTaste.com
I'm going to wait until you guys give some real, safe viable ideas so I can try going 100 mph here at home. Not necessarily in my home, but maybe out in the driveway or back yard. My lot is 80 feet x 160 feet, if that helps, plus maybe an extra 15 feet of city owned land. Time is not of the essence. The 1/4 block long side street might also be an option, depending on the time of day.
Hey man, I'm giving you some options and you're ignoring them. Northwoods Shelby Club is running Autobahn Country Club in Joliet on June 2-3. All makes welcome. The straight from turns 10 and 11 on the South course is a couple hundred feet more than a quarter mile (at 1844 feet). You might be able to hit 100 there in a safe, controlled, and responsible manner (with an instructor too!). Summer Heat at Autobahn Country Club - Northwoods Shelby Club
No you can't have an instructor! The extra weight would slow you down! Willow Springs Raceway is great for these high speed runs. It's too bad that we lost Riverside. It sounds like a bit of a short run to me. I think you'll have to turn up your supercharger and the nitrous oxide up a little bit to get some speed in that short distance! That's probably how I was able to go over 114mph when I still had EV left. With no EV, I "hit a wall" at an indicated 103mph. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. AChoiredTaste.com
Steve Wozniak was an early owner of a Prius. He used to get speeding tickets on purpose. It would end up on the news "Steve Wozniak got yet another speeding ticket while driving his Prius on the freeway." His goal was to make people realize that a Prius can actually go fast. Added: I found one of the news articles reporting his speeding: 104mph!
Only two mph faster than the guy was going here the other day when he killed a mom and her baby trying to cross a street.
This souped-up 2005 Prius SRT8 leaves Jay Leno in the dust Check this out LOL! I would love to drive this around for a weekend.
