I recently had my 2017.5 Two into the shop for 5,000 mile check. I asked the technician to please turn off the back-up beep, and that I'd heard this was possible through this website. Tech said he couldn't turn it off, but that he could make it so it just beeped once. I said "Good enough. Do it." Tech comes back a few minutes later and says that he was wrong and that he could only make it made one constant beep when in reverse. "Don't do it!" This "feature" is my only real gripe with the car, and am asking how others have addressed it. Thanks!
The tech was wrong. There are two options (and this is also explicitly stated towards the end of the manual). 1) A repetitive beeping while R is engaged. 2) A single short beep as soon as it's engaged. It also says in the manual that you can take it to any authorised Toyota dealer to get that option, and any others, changed. In my manual it's section 8-2 titled "Customisable Features": "Reverse warning buzzer. Signal (buzzer) when the shift is in R. Default setting = Intermittent. Customised setting = Single beep." I used the Carista app and an ODB bluetooth adaptor to do this myself only yesterday. Took 2 minutes. It definitely only beeps once for maybe 1/4 of a second when putting it in reverse now.
Hah! Got another one. The tech probably succeeded in disabling the beep. But then he put the car in reverse to test it. Beeeeep! Door was open. You're not supposed to drive with the door open. Close the door and see where he left the beep setting.
It was a condition of me buying my car that they turned off the constant reverse beeping. I think it still beeps once. They can do it.
I had the same adjustment made after the purchase of my 2017 Prius last year. Only one beep now. It’s so much better! My salesman and the service advisor were going to charge me to change anything! They eventually agreed to do it for free. Lesson learned, get it all in writing before you sign.
There is also a code if you use a ScanGauge to toggle the beep. Speaking of the ScanGauge and the Gen 4's, the company (linear logic) had sent me a small data logger to retrieve more X-Gauge codes, but the ones they sent me after running the logger did not work. They emailed me 2-3 weeks ago saying that they were working on a new data logger which they would send to me to run when they finished work on it.
I know (and used) the code on the Scangauge to set my Gen 3 to a single reverse beep, but thought there wasn't a code for the Gen 4 or Prime. If there is could you post it (or a pointer to it)? Much thanks if so - that's been driving us crazy for a while now, and it's still a few months to when we'll need the oil changed which was when I was going to ask the dealership to do it.
Actually the Gen 2 codes worked for me in the 2017 gen 4.Got the Prius under a car cover today, but if these don't work, I'll check the one in the ScanGauge because it does work. Here they are... TXD: 07c03bac40 (change the last 40 to 00 if you want to re-enable it.) RXF: 047b15ac0000 RXD: 2008 MTH: 000100010000 Still waiting for LInear-Logic to send a new data logger to get some new gen 4 codes...
I used the Carista OBDII connector and iPhone app to change it on my Gen 4. There are also a host of other options that can be changed, as well as using it to pull any diagnostic codes that may pop up. Well worth it...
Same here. I just made a post about this in another thread. Your can see all the options you can change with Carista here: Positive experience with Carista app. | PriusChat Pixel 2 ?
When collected my car from the dealer they'd already tweaked it to the one beep sound for reverse. Sales guy said everybody asks for it, so they did it for you anyway without waiting to be asked!
I found out my particular salesman (who had just finished a Toyota course on the Gen 4) had moved on, so I may have to find another dealership to renew my lease in 2019. Aw, shucks!
un I guess it's safe to do it on a Gen 4, the collision avoidance system makes it difficult to back into something.
