Here's where we're at. Looking at 04 will not start only recognizes when key is put in the slot. 12-volt is good how would I know if the key fob is the correct one for the car. And if it's not what would it take to get one. Owner of car said it has been sitting and thought mice may have chewed through some of the wiring. If so what would cause this problem? Or where should I look.? Thanks have a great day!
Chewed up wiring would be the cause and it's probably not a good idea to buy this unless it's used for parts
I would walk away, if pressed, I might run away. You have no idea what is wrong. The Prius is a computer with wheels, there is wiring everywhere. You will need to replace 3 batteries: Fob $3, 12 volt $180, and HV $2500. They have not been charged in a long time and are dead. (sounds like they already replaced the 12 volt) You will not find a great deal of Prius experts in AR.
Hey watch those comments about Arkansas Thanks to all for the input. Any idea where we might look for bad wiring even if I got it for parts it would be nice to be able to put it in neutral. I read a post somewhere one time where I fellow was able to jump a solenoid to get it in neutral. Is is anybody familiar with that post? Thanks
How much $$ do they want for it? I wouldn’t give much unless the car is otherwise in immaculate condition, and you own a truck/trailer to easily move it around. I’ve worked on my fair share of cars with mouse damage, and I’ve yet to see them go after the wiring. They prefer to go after any food crumbs and paper, tissues, napkins, etc left in the car. They also seem to like jute padding or other loose insulation material to build nests. I would try to verify that you have the correct key, then see if you can borrow a known good used battery to test with.
Many many reports on this forum of mice wiring damage on a Prius. They really like the wiring. https://priuschat.com/search/73547574/?q=mice+damage&t=post&o=relevance And to the OP an 04 that has sat for any length of time will have a dead hybrid battery the big expensive one. In addition to the mouse damage that's probably why it wont start.
