Hi everyone, Good day to all, This is my first time getting a hybrid (specifically Prius series), and I've owned only 1 car in my life (09 Corolla, still running) so I don't have much knowledge about cars. My main deal breaker is "the best value for money", I also normally drive to the ground so any advice would be appreciated! My dad does an uber as his main day job, but his current vehicle is too old and isn't safe/stable anymore. So my dad wanted me to give away my car and get myself a new one. I also do a lot of postmates as a side job, and I am all for gas saving so I decided to go with Prius series. After researching, it came down to Prius One vs Prime Plus (because of tax credit + rebate). But some say Prius two is the best for value.. I am having hard time deciding what to get since this purchase will last a decade at least. Thank you in advance for your help!
If you are in LA and can find a 17 Prius with $4500 off, then your final price after Federal tax credit and CA rebate your price would be less than 20k, and Edision might give you $500 as well. I don't see why Prius two is the best value. Don't hesitate, 17 models are running out and next year is unpredictable.
I do live in LA. U mean 2017 regular prius one right? Or do u mean prime? I heard that 4.5k off is onlh for prime due to its battery size..
@DianneWhitmire at Carson Toyota, 301-522-2317, is someone you should call and meet. She has a lot of credibility and can give you excellent advice. Bob Wilson
With cars you gotta do some analysis, and throw in some personal wants, to reach a great conclusion. So what is your commute like--which vehicle will be cheaper to operate? Then think about the personal wants--which car do you like the best--looks, features, satisfaction? Personal wants mean a lot--because if you plan to keep this car for 10 or more years, you gotta be happy with it. For me, the decision was easy--I went for the Prime Advanced. For my commute, it saves the most money (I charge at work, so no gas used to and from) when compared to a Prius, and the extra features (HUD is my fav) mean that I am much more likely to keep it long term. I drove up to DC to Jim Coleman Toyota and got a great deal on a 2017--with a $3000 rebate and $3000 off the sticker.....plus later I get the $4500 federal tax credit. Good luck--please let us know what you decide!
Whatever you decide don't buy a car you don't want. I bought a car once and it was missing options I knew I wanted but bought it anyway. It was a good car but didn't have a problem when I let it go. It was a black car with no A/C, dumB.
I was not sure if anyone is planning to use the car to drive for Uber, but I think (I could be totally wrong) that Uber cars need at least 5 seats (need 4 passenger seats plus driver)? Prime only has 4 seats, FYI. but to me those 4 seats seem plenty spacious and comfortable.
Financially, Prime Plus seems to be the best value. I was also amazed how efficient it was when I drove Prime to skiing resorts last winter as it kept charging downhill and switching to EV automatically even when I was driving 70+mph and ended up 74mpg for 380mile round trip. I don't know about regular Prius, but Prime continues to amaze me. If you do urban driving with your second job, you would appreciate the bigger buttery on Prime. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
No only Prime eligible for federal tax credit. I believe you can find a 2017 Prius Prime Premium for $4000+ off sticker price now.
Actually you can, if your income qualifies. 6. Q: Can I apply for clean air decals and for a rebate from the California Air Resources Board’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP)? A: For a vehicle purchased on or after January 1, 2018, an applicant cannot participate in both the Clean Air Vehicle Decal Program and the CVRP unless the income restriction for tax return falls below: $150,000 for a single person, $204,000 for a head of household, and $300,000 for a joint tax return.
Federal tax credit only returns to those who pay the tax. But CA is just opposite. It is a f**king joke that you cannot get it with higher family income. It doubles for those who don't pay tax
Thank you everyone for your detail responses, I learned so much. Yea my dad wants my corolla, and I am the one buying the new one. My round trip commute is about +-60 miles per day unless I have no business for that day since I am a freelancer, but I'd be doing postmates for those days so I do drive pretty a lot. I am leaning towards 2017 prime, so I guess I will check into it. Thank you once again everyone I will put the update here.
Also take a loot at Clarity? Lowest base model in Southern CA was $29.9k. You can squeeze out 60 miles when warm if you mainly drive in town.
