Disconnect 12V to Service Rear Brakes?

    Do I need to disconnect the 12V battery to lubricate the rear brakes? The Prius regenerates using the front wheels.

    I can get away with not disconnecting the 12V for the rear brakes right? Every other year, I always have problems with the rear brakes after winter.

    Just move away the key. And do not open any doors to wake the car up

    You'll have the caliper off the rotor? Me I would disconnect the battery.

    Yes you might be ok, but weigh the consequence of a mis-step, say absentmindedly opening the driver's door in order to pump the brake, seat the piston solidly against the pads (in the correct orientation). The piston can pop out, easily. Also, if you do everything while the car is comotose, including pumping the brake pedal to build up pressure, the car is less likely to detect excess pedal travel, throw a code.
