My battery died. I went in for diagnostics and came back with what I was afraid- the battery needs to be replaced. I was thinking about using a company called battery4prius to install a battery with a 2 year warranty, but am wondering if there are any recommendations out there for new batteries, or reliable companies that ship out new batteries that I can install.

I am open to any and all cost-effective suggestions, but I prefer to not have to continually work on it or get it fixed, which is why I wonder if a new battery would be better.

If you can install a battery then why not check with a dealer parts department bto find out what the cost is for a new Toyota pack.

Toyota packs ahve the longest track record and are going to last a long time. Basically you'll never have to think about it again.

My guess is cost could be around $2000-$2500.

A used battery cannot last as long a new one. Regardless of warranty.

If you plan on keeping the car for any length of time or are looking to "not have to continually work on it or get it fixed", then a new battery is the way to go.

Jessica at @Hometown Hybrids with the website http://www.hometownhybrids.com/ ships out both Toyota new and rebuilt batteries. Rebuilt goes for $995, and New Toyota factory at $2295, both include free shipping (both ways, as you must return the old core). The new battery should be plug and play, no need to swap or replace parts between old and new (maybe Jessica will clarify)

The other option for a new battery (not OEM) would be @2k1Toaster at NewPriusBatteries for $1600 (includes shipping), takes some work to install/swap the new batteries into your existing case. The bonus beyond price, is being able to keep or sell your old modules to offset the purchase cost.

You might be able to find a new Toyota battery for less (under $2k) if you drive into the greater southern California area, but then you would need to swap around pieces and parts from your old battery and then safely recrate the old core to physically return it to the dealer where purchased.

i would either go new, or the other new replacement linked above. rebuilt are for short term and almost always a hassle.

I just had refurbished batterys installed in my 2007 prius, by, Hybrid Battery Doctor.inc, they did the install, at my house, 2yr warranty, $1355, two young men, it took them one hour to remove and install new refurbished, batterys, tested it for a little drive, and done. I was very pleased with all they did, I would use them again. They do have some longer Warrenty packages, I just went with the two year.

If you read the above, you'd know that we don't recommend refurbs due to them failing within 2 years or less, as the 10 year fix costs just alittle more than what you paid. (Under 2k). Actual cost of a refurb is 60 dollar a module, usually 1 or 2 modules fail, and then labor to change, which is... 2 hours if they just do a swap, and under 10 hours if they do a complete rebalance with those 1 or 2 modules.

The warrenty should cover any problems.

If you can get hold of them and you don't mind your car being out of action for up to 4 (maybe more) times during the 2 year warranty.

Also, does the warranty cover the swap labor? Most don't, so by the time you have to shell out $350 (and up to $500) to swap in your warranty replacement, you will have paid the same as a factory new with which you would have no problems for at least 10 years.

Just been speaking with a rebuilt battery victim customer, and in hindsight she wishes she went with factory new. What it is costing her overall will make you cry.

But horses for courses, it all depends on what your long game is.

Anything is possible, I would rather be optimistic, rather than worry about it, the Prius is just an uber car for me, I have 4 more cars I can drive, I'm not strapped to the Prius for my only car.

    Good to know.

Like I said, horses for courses.

Come back and share your battery replacement story in a few years. It is always informative to hear of real life stories.

Those are POBOXES that ups sells.. in other words if they decide to close shop you're out of luck. Again this isn't about you who has done it but rather for others who are yet to do it. It may be great for you, and that's great, but most people become victims and need to be told about that upfront rather than being optimistic and finding out later.
