I was merely trying to circumvent anyone taking your advice and extrapolating the logic to arrive at the conclusion that they now never need to change their oil.

How did you rack up so many miles?

 

I'm not quite there yet at 282K miles. Would have flow by it two years ago had I not been using my Tesla as my primary commute car (260 mile round trip).

The only issue that has been repaired so far has been the combo meter (replaced by Toyota under enhanced warranty) and the coolant diverter valve. 5 minutes for me to replace it with one bought on Amazon.

The cat failed several years ago. I'm not spending $2K on a CARB cat. If I were out of state, this would be a cheap fix. I tried the oxalic / citric acid bath which lasted about 3 months but it failed again after that. It last long enough to smog it. It's coming due again this September.


I also proactively replaced the TPS units the last time I got the tires changed since they were 10 years old already and I didn't want them to fail and have to pay to dismount a tire solely for the purpose of replacing the sensors. They were $35 each on Amazon. I used my Techstream to program the ECU for the new ids.

At current rate, should hit 300K in about 9 months.

My mom just bought a 2007 with 118K miles on with a bad traction battery and she didn't know it. It's throwing P0A80 and P3018 codes constantly and going into limp mode every few miles.

 

I had a cat sent to a friend out of state than to me to fix that issue.

It stays at 299,999. Mine has been there for about 50,000 miles. But that's an educated guess. I'm using the trip computer to track mileage. Today, the drive battery that I replaced last year failed again. It's under warranty but I just need to get it to the shop. They said that because the catalytic converter is throwing a P0420 code that caused the drive bat to fail prematurely. I don't think that's possible or true.

 

If that is the level of their competence, I'd give them a wide berth. Shame you are locked into the warranty.

You got that right. Sounds lie they are grasping at straws, looking for any reason to squirm their way out of the warranty.

 

Cat inefficiency wouldn't cause the battery to fail.

2009 just crossed 300K! Original batteries, original brake pads. Still gets 46 mpg..eats oil. Only thing replaced has been the coolant control valve and the catalytic converter.

 

Wow that is amazing. I’m hoping to get mine to 300k. It has 260k at the moment and I drive 27k a year. Still on the original pack and gets 46mpg.

 

my 2004 Prius is at an estimated 350k or so. odometer stopped at 299,999. it's just now needing a new battery, having never replaced the original. has needed a new catalytic converter, but i'm waiting on that until i need a smog check - due next year. haven't done anything to it other than usual car replacement things. have been trying to figure out if it's worth replacing the battery now ($3k) and then the cat in a year ($2400) or get a new Prius... haven't found much online yet to give me good guidance on what to do, so i'm leaning towards replacing the battery for now and making the call in a year...
