I've recently purchased a Mini VCI cable for my 2008 Prius. Planning to set it up and test it this weekend. In the meantime, I was hoping to get some feedback on what would be the best or most optimal version of the Techstream software to use with a Gen 2 Prius? There are copies available ranging from v7.x all the way to v12.x. Version 7 was apparently released around 2012, so by that time I would think its code should have been fairly mature insofar as the Gen 2 Prius (2004-2009) is concerned. My understanding is that the later versions mostly were just updated for newer models of the Prius and other Toyota cars. So would it be best to go with say, version 7.10.030 or 8.00.034? Both of these are available to me. Or were there important bug fixes that were added to later versions? Would I be better off with say version 9 or 10? Or perhaps there really isn't much practical difference in terms of features and stability for a Gen 2? I've seen a lot of links to the various versions of the software and how to install it, so sourcing the software is not going to be a problem. I'd just be curious to know what others' experiences have been in terms of stability and functionality among the different versions as it relates to the Gen 2 Prius. I should also mention that I plan to install it on a Windows XP laptop. Thanks for your advice! -Kizzy
I haven't used v7, but have used 8, 9 and 10 and have found them to be much of a much-ness. Just refrain from installing v11 onwards. Given the choice of v7 or v8 I'd tend toward the newer one. If you have an earlier version and you find you need features in a later version, it is a straightforward, quick and painless process to upgrade. I wouldn't sweat it.
Thanks dolj. I finally had a chance to test my Mini VCI cable over the weekend. I went with Techstream v8.00.034 and though I haven't looked through everything yet, it does seem to be full-featured, stable, and functioning well. An incredible value for the less-than $20 I paid for the cable. One thing i have not been able to locate (that I expected to see) are the options for disabling the seatbelt and reverse warning beeps. I have the options to customize several other settings under the Customize > Warnings menu, but not those two. Maybe they are hidden somewhere else in the software? It's not a dealbreaker, since it's possible to disable them via the usual chicken-dance steps, but it makes me curious if a newer version of Techstream would have them. Or perhaps it could have something to do with my el cheapo cable not supporting all of the features of the software. Do you have those options available on your setup, when you select Customize > Warnings, or are they under a different menu someplace? Another possibility is that changing the seatbelt/reverse beep warnings simply isn't an available option in Techstream for the Gen 2 Prius. I have seen actual screenshots of it available for a Gen 3, however. -Kizzy
Hi Kizzy, Were you able to find if this feature is available and if you were able to find it elsewhere in the software? I've got v12.20 installed and don't see anything user Customize>Warnings but the rest of the software and other customize options seem to work. Is this feature available for other Gen 2 users?
So does anyone have a way for me to get version 7.0??? I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Please and thank you
