Can anyone tell me if those slots next to the sunglass holder contain microphones for bluetooth telephones? My '04 Prius was delivered without bluetooth, but I'd like to know if the microphones are present regardless. I"m going to be installing a Parrot bluetooth kit and having a factory microphone could be an advantage. Thanks, Rob '04 w/ factory EV switch.

Hard to know for sure...if that overhead unit is a standard one-size-fits-all kind of thing the microphone might be there and just not connected to a BT unit or NAV....then again it may only be installed if you have BT/NAV. In any case, I suggest you take the overhead thing down and take a look...shouldn't be very difficult.
My guess is that, on non-bluetooth models, the microphone isn't present. by removing the microphone, they cut down their costs a little without removing any functionality the normal user would see (with no bluetooth, you don't need a microphone for any factory items in the car). the plastic cover for that overhead section is probably standard, as Evan suggested. It's much cheaper for them to produce one mold for the piece and use it regardless of the presence or absence of a microphone. functionally it's no different from a mold with a solid piece there, and asthetically it doesn't add or subtract much.
Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'm goin' in to scout it out. I'll post what I find when I finish the installation.
According to the service manual, the harness is not wired up there (there's a '*3 - navigation unit only' next to those connectors) If you need reference information: It's connector O3, Overhead J/B (Page 52.) It's supposed to terminate to the MFD (Page 330) (where can view plugs into) Hmm.. that connector doesn't exist without nav, so the upper one probably dosen't exist either.. If you take it apart and see a connector, look for shielded red and green wires, and a brown wire. (3 pin connector) I'm hoping that it is wired, otherwise, it's going to be a fun wire run.. I want to do the same thing with my CarPC so that I can do that whole voice recognition thing. If I have the time, this is going to have a custom echo canceller. Gotta love them mips! I've wanted to use built in microphone, at least those locations. That'd be really cool.
