Found on Japan Amazon (use google translate please) this new panel with 2 USB, cost around $80 USD. I hope they have the US version:
Don't need google translate. When you're on Amazon JP, you can select EN for English in the language select drop down.
I bet someone could do something very similar to this for much cheaper because I doubt we'll get this. Japan always gets all the goodies. Get a couple tiny LED bulbs and wire them behind the shifter panel so it just glows around the shifter since there's space in there. The USB ports could be dremeled and wired in... It would just take someone knowing where the power could be drawn from and what to attach them to.
This is what I ordered. Will see how it looks. May be too bright. Lol 2 X Ultra Blue 60mm COB LEDs Angel Eyes Halo Ring Headlight&fog Housing Lamp US | eBay
Take a picture of what you wire it to for power. I'd like to know what you use for this in case I try to go a similar route.
Sure. Run wires is easy part. I already did that. The hard part is whether the ring will fit. I measured that hole is 60mm. Hopefully the ring will fit.
If it didn't you could always put it inside the open areas and just let the glow indirectly come in through the crevasse.
Got the led ring today and it won’t work mounting inside that hole 1) you see spots on the ring this don’t look right 2) the ring with cover is a tad bigger than the hole. I just ordered the 80mm white led ring this time and mount inside instead. Should be here sat
Well Sarah. The 80mm works. Plenty bright even it only shines through the crack as you suggested...but not blinding or in real life. I like it
I prefer the black. It looks like it reduces the amount of light too which might be better in terms of night driving and eye acclimatization.
Yeah. I put in the black appliqué this morning. I drove without it to a friends house over the weekends (night) and the brightness was too much at night. Daytime it’s perfect. I’m getting a dimmer to dim it at night when the headlight is on. Will see
What about just connecting it to the same circuit that controls the brightness of the dashboard lights? Then it’s adjustable with that single control.
