Went to "Central Florida Toyota" to get the NHTSA #17V718 "Fuse fracture" recall addressed. The whole behavior seems little or more scam. Not sure if its Toyota's general business model or its just the dealership I was unlucky with.

Had booked the appointment couple of weeks back. When reach today the dealership took the car and promised the car can be picked up three and half hours later. The guy at the counter had already added oil change to the bill. Like I never asked for one. Took cab back home. In an hour got call they do not have parts and hence can not fix the issue. And that I will have to return on Monday when they will take the order and then will have to drop the car on Tuesday and they will return the car on Wednesday. Yes for a fuse replacement! That last bit of info seemed said "dont come back again".

Help me understand how difficult is this fuse replacement. Heard its the rectifier fuse. Does Toyota deliver the part and I can get it fixed? Thanks.

I just had my fuse scheduled and done a few days ago. The only thing tricky was that they had to bring in one of their hybrid certified mechanics. Look for a survey from the regional Toyota center and tell them all about your problems. They will contact the local guys and tell them to make things right.

there are two different fuses. first they have to open her up to see which one she has. then they order it. this is covered in the fuse recall thread.

as for the business model, it's partly toyota's fault, and partly the scam dealer laws. in florida, there is a third event in play.

Got mine done Thursday along with 60k service at Lia Toyota in Rockland Co,. NY. Took a couple hours, but they shuttled me to the nearby mall to shop and kill time. I also wanted the NAV update, but they had to order that one, and it came in yesterday.

Just had mine done on 03/30 at Courtesy Toyota, Tampa, FL- I brought the cart in for an oil change, and I knew from previous posts that they needed to manually verify the part. I asked the Advisor to just do the oil change, verify/order the part, and I would return a week or so later for the recall work. They called a few hours later, saying that they would keep it overnight and complete the recall, but they did put me in a loaner, so I have no complaints.

So, in essence, your experience is typical in that the part needs to be manually verified. Seems to me, however, that their communication of the process could have been better in both your case and mine.

Your dealer did you an extreme disservice. I would complain. My experience was much like that of @KevinPluggedIn. Sun Toyota needed to open it up to see which particular fuse mine had and order it from the local warehouse. They were out of loaners, so they rented me a car so they could keep it overnight while the part arrived and not have to take it apart and put it together again.

In hind sight, the dealership is only 2 miles away, so I should have walked home. ;)

That works for us too: both Honda and Toyota dealerships nearby are within a km. Loaner rentals can be a pain too, they may be third-party and they can use scare tactics to pay extra for collision.

I had my fuse replaced along with a 30K service. (No air filter change with only about 6K miles on the engine.) Quoted 4 hours, took 2, I should have just waited and consumed their free soft drinks. No problem with having the correct fuse in California :)

Seems to me that that must be a federal mandate since I've never seen them not do that. One reason I've come to hate renting a car.

Why can't dealers keep a couple fuses of each type on hand. It's a fuse .... It just can't cost that much to keep a small inventory.

I know on the bay bridge they have cash lanes.

Haven’t been across the golden gate in some time. I know they were tryin to make that bridge solely Fastrak only.

even then, they just mail you a bill around here, a bit more expensive, but you can't expect every out of towner to have the local service.

it wa a low ball rental, alamo, budget or the like. they tried to make it up in add ons, the guy was definitely working commission and getting frustrated as i declined option after option it was as bad as buying a car!:p

I think you can also pay on their website as I had a loaner car a couple of months back for the wife’s RX450h and forgot about the fastrak not being in the loaner:cool:.

Called the wife and she paid online:).

    She’s good like that(y).
