Here's why I'm so sad---after waiting a month and a half for my package 7 beautiful silver Prius. I was told it was ready to come home with me. I went in at 9pm on Friday nite, driving home with it after 10:30. I put less than 200 miles on it, and was on my way to a yoga class less than 5 miles from my house on Monday afternoon. All of a sudden I felt a sickening crash, then went up on the 2 left wheels. I avoided oncoming traffic and pulled over out of the speeding Atlanta rush hour traffic and took a look at the right side of my brand new car. Aaaagghh! It is completely trashed on the right side. It still drives, but I don't want to let it go until they are done with investigating and ready to fix it. I hate smokey rental cars, and still have to pay 20% of the cost, not to mention the $1,000 deductible and depreciation. Sad, eh? Oh, the driver of the late model Taurus said I drove into him---not!

I am really sorry to hear about your wreck in your brand new car. I surely hope that it gets fixed quickly.
I believe the Prius has an electronic data recorder, that functions like an airliner's "black box" after a significant event or crash. Should help if the other driver is being less than honest. Anyone else have any experience with this?
Did he rear end you? Did you rear end him? Or did he hit you from the side moving into your lane? I don't suppose there were any witnesses that saw it? Any way if you can find out if the guy was in a rental car because his car was in the shop being fixed from an accident? (Was he drunk? Using cell phone?)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Trinity @ Jul 30 2006, 01:38 PM) </div> That would be great, wouldn't it? I was hit from the side, went up on the left 2 wheels. Have to say, the Prius kept me safe, and I was very lucky there was no oncoming traffic at that exact moment. He either was not paying attention or was doing a radical lane change while accelerating. There was a pregnant woman and a child in the back seat riding with him. I did not do it, was in the middle lane, my lane, planning to make a left turn in less than a half mile. No reason to go to the right for me... I'm getting used to it, but it's hard to see the poor new car smooshed like that... Thanks you guys!
SO sorry for the loss of your new baby! I, too, had a recent stint with the autobody, but it was my own damn fault. I hope it gets worked out and you don't have to pay the $1,000 deduct. Namaste
Yes, the car does have a data recorder and your Toyota dealer has (or should have) the ability to download it. It details everything - from the position of the steering wheel to what seat(s) are occupied. Check with your insurance company. I had to sign a form agreeing to let Toyota and my insurance company have access to this information as well as any law enforcement agencies that might want it. We were in Atlanta over the weekend. The traffic never ends! I'm glad you're OK!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(sitaprius @ Jul 30 2006, 10:56 AM) </div> You poor thing. I feel your pain. I'm like a nervious Nelly waiting for that inevitable first scratch. My God if I were you I'd die. I'll say a prayer it all works out for you.
I used to work in credit adjsutments for a large bank in NY state. You wouldn't believe the number of people who get a new car and have a wreck! gald you are not hurt, hoping everything works out!
Glad you're okay...so sorry about the car! That totally sucks...hope you get your new baby back soon. Did the other guy have insurance?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Florida Prius @ Jul 30 2006, 06:16 PM) </div> Does anyone have any technical information about this data recorder? I'd love to know more about it!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(miwaku @ Aug 1 2006, 06:23 AM) </div> Very sorry to read about your new baby being hurt.... One of the products I want to get for my Prius (when I get it ) is the DriveCam. Drive Cam they cost about $1500. but considering the cost of getting the accident on video and proving your right.. priceless.
Sorry for your accident, I hope truth and justice one way or the other are the final outcome. If anyone from the other thread on driving slow in front of SUV's would like to chime in on how this person was 'right' and how 'that' will surely bring justice with the law enforcement and insurance companies on her side, I'm sure it would lift her spirits to have your input. After all, being 'right' is all it takes. In SUV aggressive cases, being 'right' is all you need, you will live through the accident and then all the witnesses will testify against the SUV driver, there will be magical video of the whole thing and the SUV driver will confess to it being all his fault. Well, at least in the dreamland of some on here. Let us know how it goes for you. I hope it turns out for truth and justice, I just don't tend to count on it. Remember kids, it's never fun to be dead right.
