My windows rattle & chatter when going over bumps, poor roads or bumping my subs. Happens worse when they are cracked just a little. Tried putting weather stripping foam behind the window runs last summer which helped a little but wasn't going to live with it anymore so I am in the process of replacing the Window Channel runs. Replaced one to see if that was really causing the noise and my road test proved it today so just ordered the other 3. Super easy to do just takes some finger strength and time. Had to buy from a Toyota online store. I removed the door panel so I can see what I was doing on the driver door but don't think it's needed for the install once you get the hang of it. Top tweeter speakers should be removed though. Just pops off. Here is me removing the original run. Roll the window all the way down and start pulling. I decided to lube the run with WD40 but not sure if that was needed. Note they will tell you which side they are on this internal corner. This side is a pain during the install. Here is the new Channel Run to show you how far down it goes. Line up your new run with the channel and start pushing into the jam. Once you start it in the jam you can slide it up or down to line up with the window. Keep pushing the run down until you get to where you can line up the corner and adjust from there. In short keep working the run into the channel/jam until it looks like how it did originally. Do NOT use a flat head screw driver as you'll run the risk of puncturing the rubber. I used my fingers and a flat wide plastic trim puller tool wrapped in a towel to rarely push where needed. When done slowly roll the window up and check fitment. I left the window up overnight after testing to apply pressure to the new rubber. Working great today. I can post more detailed pics if needed when doing the other doors. Very easy task just a little intimidating since I've not messed with windows before.
Mine only rattles if the window is down a little. No problem when it's up, has some pressure pushing up. I have a 04 with 230,000. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
After reading this thread, I ordered the rear set and put them in today. Worked like a charm, no rattles, easy to replace. I would recommend wearing gloves, it not only keeps your hands/fingers clean, but will allow you to grab/push/pull the material easier. 2006 Gen 2 2014 Gen 3 v
Noticed I had more wind noise after replacing the channel run on the driver door so did some research to find the side mirror was the problem and here is the fix I added in another thread... Definitely worth the extra few minutes to do if you are already messing with the doors. wind noise cause by the loose tape underneath the side mirror | PriusChat Did the passenger door channel run last night too and the glass seemed really loose after removing the run but think that is normal not having it in place to hold the glass. Double checked the arms that hold the bottom of the glass and they looked good so I continued on. Window works great now. Plan on doing the rears soon.
Had that problem myself. Mirror was replaced at some point and they didn't put the foam back in place correctly. High pitched wind noise drove me crazy. Lol Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Here are some pictures from my car. After much searching and finally coming across your post I think what I need is a window channel run. My question is, how many runs are needed per window. My drivers side window wont go up all the way as seen in the pictures because the rubber pinches and restricts the window from going all the way up, its getting worse everyday. Also would the drivers side be considered front left window?
