I've done research about windows tinting, and read many say 'make sure to use non-metal film' for windows tinting. I talked to my local guy and he told me that he can use non-metal film, but it would turn to purple about 5 years later. Whereas, metal-film stays dark or just the same. I was told that the main reason not using metal-film is because it would interfere GPS reception (or possible radio?). I have a 2006 prius package #4, which doesn't have Nav system. However, I do have a PDA type gps, which I usually put on my prius dash board (right against the small window in front). I know the windshield will not be tinted, but just wanted to make sure FM/AM signals and my PDA gps reception will be okay. I'm leaning towards to metal-film hoping the color stays same. How does metal-film affect prius?
interesting....I have never heard this. I am curious to hear what people have to say since I am about to have my windows tinted....I do have the nav system.
As long as you don't tint metal in the front where the GPS dish is (behind the MFD), then you won't affect/block it. If you have metal everywhere else, good luck on the celphone reception in the back. You'll probably lose a bar or so. Search the threads on tinting and metal film.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NuShrike @ Jul 28 2006, 09:37 AM) </div> I, too am getting my windows tinting next Tuesday...What is the scoop on different film. Is there a type that is best...Or better yet is there a type to strongly stay away from. Thanks
I was also concerned with the metallic tint causing reception problems. For that reason I went with Huper Optik ceramic. It was expensive, but I'm happy with it, really good heat rejection, etc. From reading posts on this sight, I'm not sure if the expense is justified. Most people that got metallic tints seem to be OK
