does it with both blinkers. switches back and forth between rear camera and display about every second. recently rebuilt battery if that's relevant.

i'm thinking bad clock spring, low 12v, or wiring where the camera and blinkers meet, but i don't know if they do.
has it done it since you bought it?

first it's happened. haven't properly charged new 12v yet but it's on the charger now. reinstalled trunk panels yesterday so maybe I accidentally did something to the wiring. will check that out if 12v doesn't fix it. do the wires meet near the camera or under one of the side panels?

no idea, idk why they would meet at all, but the wiring diagram should show it.

The backup light signal is what tells the MFD to switch to showing the reverse camera.

I would guess an unintentional bridge created between the turn signal and backup light circuits, or (maybe even more likely) a loose or bad ground at a taillight connection, so that power arriving on a turn signal circuit ends up backfeeding the backup lights by enough to trigger the MFD to switch.

Reminds me of my very first car, which the PO sold me for $1 when the turn signals started making the radio blink. (Back then, body rust prevention wasn't nearly as good as now, and lots of that sort of problem would turn out to involve a circuit that was grounded to one part of the body that wasn't, ehrm, very well connected to the other parts of the body any more.)

it's raining so I haven't been able to take a good look at it yet, but also noticed today that both indicators on the dash are lit up, and it blinks faster with the headlights on. definitely seems like some kind of grounding problem.

Not sure exactly what problem the picture three posts up is showing. Is it that there is a missing wire that goes on that spade? Spade and spade connectors are available in any car parts store, which buddya8 can attach to the existing wire (assuming there is one) using a set of lineman's pliers or other specialized crimper.
