LED Headlight Conversion Kit

There are a lot of threads on the topic of headlight upgrades. I know because it's always been one of my favorite topics. I love the satisfaction of a thick spread of light with a clean cutoff.

There are a number of plug-n-play options for LEDs and HIDs which are easy to install and don't cost very much. Unfortunately, you're never going to get a deeply satisfying upgrade without a some custom work. On top of that, there are a lot of folks that would be happy to flame you for installing a plug-n-play kit which will blind oncoming traffic when used in projector designed for halogen bulbs.

 

Over the last 2 years I have tried a few of the plug and play kits.

The HID kits have terrible dark spots and so actually give less useable light that a halogen bulb.

The LED weren’t much better than the HID but had the added annoyance of a whirring fan on each bulb that in the end made as much noise as a refrigerator unit on a truck!!

Both look good when viewed from the front but performed badly, I ended up buying some high quality performance halogen bulbs that appear to give a greater spread of light.

Any suggestions on bulbs that you speak of... I agree with you regarding the kits you mentioned .... but oem bulbs are just horrible

 

Are you uk or us based?

I'm still scratching my head why people think the OEM bulbs are so bad. Mine perform very well, but I also keep my lights looking like new.

It’s probably a perspective thing... prior car had led headlights and where we live tends to still considerable amount of city lights....

 

I just got this late last year. Nice clean cutoff

No noisy fan to fail. just don't touch the heatsink after u had it running. Had one set DOA for another car, vendor send out new set after sending claim and pix.

 

Resistor comes with kit?

 

Resistor? I thought that was only needed for turn signal. This is just plug n play.

 

some cars will show an alarm if the current draw of the headlight is to low.. they use resistors to trick the system and prevent codes

No issue so far since october.

 

Will I have low and high beam operation?
How hard is it to install the resistor?

Would I be better off getting a kit that has the conversion to trick system built in?

Any other plug n play suggestions for low and high beams fully plug n play?

 

Just bought those Beamtechs. Should get them on Wednesday. I'll update thread with thoughts and pics once installed! The halogens in my 2011 suck! Plus I hate the boring yellow look, all my other lights have been converted to white LEDs.

I'm going to leave my high beams a lone, they work fine and I don't use them often. I just want low beams to be LED.

 

Installed the Beamtechs yesterday. Love them! Major improvement. Paid $36.99. Were LEDs much more expensive a few years ago? I put in new headlight assembly units last month which has made the car much younger-looking and the road is so much brighter now with these LEDs. Noticed a parking light was burned out during my install yest and so I’m going shopping again on Amazon.

just don't touch them after usage. The heatsink is super hot.

 

No need for resistor. Its plug and play.
